  • Mt. Rushmore of "but no Championship"

The NHL thread inspired this thought.

Of the four major sports (one per sport) who would be on the Mt. Rushmore of "they did everything for the game ... but win a championship".

    My first cut was

Ernie Banks, Dan Marino, Charles Barkley, ... and Alex Ovechkin.

You’re right but at least Teddy got a shot at one. Ty Cobb might top them both, though.

You may want to swap Marino for Barry Sanders.

Griffey didn’t get one, either. But the more I think about it, the baseball list starts (and might end) with Cobb.

            Didn’t realize that.

First 3 full time big league seasons (aged 20-21-22) lost in the WS, then never again

....except that a good bunch of that has been debunked.

I'd put Karl Malone over Barkley.

No, I’ve got to go with Karl here, too.

Sanders I'll give you. It's hard to remember now given that he's, you know, a murderer, but O.J. was an amazing player. Far above Marino or Campbell IMHO.
