Re: Possible Changes to Recruiting Rules
Darn! My newborn granddaughter can't commit until she's 16. That stinks!!
With the death of the gentlemen's agreement, commitments don't mean a heck of a lot anyway.CCT '77 & '78

Re: Possible Changes to Recruiting Rules
What problem(s) is/are these rule changes supposed to be fixing? If a kid wants to commit in 8th grade and the coach wants to take the risk of a talent plateau, go for it. In fact, I say let them sign a letter of intent at that point. That would greatly reduce amount of wasted time in recruiting chasing after all the verbals until they actually sign.Wisconsin Hockey: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 WE WANT MORE!

When I read the article it said it was for D1 only, obviously it needs more work or it creates at least as many problems as it solves.

Even for the boys it’s a long shot, although the money involved at least maybe makes it worth the gamble.

Re: Possible Changes to Recruiting Rules
On the other end of the recruiting conversation, UMD just signed a goalie who will turn 21 her freshman year from Sweden. Is this a new idea or old idea giving U.S. Division 1 NCAA scholarships to Europeans who play in what they describe as a professional league (a league where some college graduates from the US play)? This presumably is like junior men in US where they are able to retain NCAA eligibility? Does this happen in Division 3 too?

they are not the only ones, Clarkson seems to be doing it
if you want to win, some coaches will do anything, can't really blame the coaches, their continued 6 figure salary depends upon it
the NCAA & university administration is to blame, they pizz all over the concept of Student-Athlete with a straight face, it's all about the money
can't blame the players, if somebody dangles free room and board, a chance to delay being an adult for another 4 years, and a chance for a free degree from a US university, why not?
keep in mind the Olympics used to be amateur athletes only
maybe we should expect that some day down at the squirt level we'll see recruiting like in college
parents given a rental car to use if their kid plays for the team
not sure supplying hookers at that age will have an effect though unless the hooker likes to play video gamesLast edited by pokechecker; 04-12-2018, 08:45 AM.
