Fun was had. Oh, the horror.

Reminds me of a clip that always used to get played on the sports blooper reels in the 70s. I remember Norm Cash was the hitter, don't recall the first baseman, maybe Bob Robertson, but it was a friend of his. Little bouncer down the line to first, 1B picks up the ball in front of the bag and starts walking towards Cash. Cash stops dead. They laugh for a second, then the 1B tosses the ball to the pitcher and Cash, confused, walks the remaining few feet and stands on first.

        Safe.

Softball actually has a rule against that. Runner is out once they stop actively going for the base.

Wonder if any team is gonna take a flyer on this kid? They didn't last year, he went back to college, and every team passed on him yesterday in the 1st round.

Just watched a documentary about the prison system. It really is designed to get the accused to take a plea deal. In this day and age, with all the info and scrutiny and immediate judgement out there...hoo boy.

I am not saying he is not guilty. However, I am saying he paid his price, seems to be on track with his life, and let's move on. We want criminals to rehab, pay for their sins, and become productive members of society, yes? So far, he's doing that.

Now, if he messes up, different story.

Bumgarner throws 82 pitches in 6 innings, gives up 8 hits 2ER's and strikes out 3 in his 1st start since coming off the DL.

Wasn't drafted. I'd be surprised if one of those independent league teams took a chance.

The Heimlich story is just such a good lesson for how we go off track as a society.

What he did was heinous. It's a mark that has to remain with him for the rest of his life. He can't complain about people always looking out of the corner of their eye to make sure they know what he is doing at all times. He's forfeited his presumption of normalcy.

But do we just demand as a society that his life be discarded? Playing baseball, professionally, is simply a job. The teams hire the players, and pay them handsomely. But it's still employment.

Do we also say that we don't want him working at a WalMart?

I know why teams won't take a chance on him. It's because of us. They are afraid of our reaction, of our outrage, of our demand that Heimlich be released. But do we really have that right, or should we exercise it? Aren't we better off trying to turn him into a useful, productive member of society?

It bothers me when the pitchfork and torch crowd gets their way.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

If you're referring to Colin Kaepernick, yeah it's somewhat similar.

There are some obvious differences. Whatever it was that Kaepernick may have done pales in comparison to child sex abuse.

On the other hand, his actions occurred while he was working for the employer, and in the league that has apparently shunned him. If Heimlich was a five year mlb pro and went out and abused a six year old girl, I would probably feel a little differently if his team then dropped him and no other teams picked him up, than I do about this situation where Heimlich was a juvenile, "did his time" so to speak with respect to filling his obligations in the criminal justice system, and is now looking to proceed with the rest of his life.

But yeah, Kaepernick has probably been a victim of fan reaction, or anticipated fan reaction.

                              ?

Kaep would be a fine draw for fans -- 90% wouldn't give a sh-t if he won, and for every knuck moron who threw a hissy fit he'd attract at least 20 BLM Priders.

Kaep is blackballed because NFL owners are a bunch of ancient racist sh-tbirds.

It's not that simple. Football is entertainment so it's all about image. They don't want to be associated with a kid diddler.

Now, unfortunately, he may never have been a kid diddler. From the 8 seconds I put into looking at this story it looks like he always said he was innocent but he was forced into a plea bargain to avoid be burned at the stake. And kid diddling is the current Witchcraft offense where accusation equals conviction and auto de fe (previously: communism, anarchism, atheism, and... huh... witchcraft itself!)

Dude's dead as a marketable property so he's dead as a pro athlete. If he's innocent then it really, really sucks but maybe he's saved from CTE. If he's guilty... meh, f-ck 'im.

Maybe he's one of those Nice Christians and he'll find his judgment with the Lord, or whatever. World needs ditch diggers too.
