I don't think territory status has anything to do with Republican's racist tendencies.

yes, Republicans are racist. However even ignoring the fact that they are treated like second class citizens (because they literally are) when it comes to disaster relief, they have no voting representation in the body that creates federal laws that apply to them. This needs to end.

Not convinced voting representation does anything either. Convince me.

Are the complainers of the investigation so stupid to not see that THEY CAN GET HACKED TOO??!?!?!?!!!??!?! Sure seems like it.

The alternative is that they are cahoots with the russians- which is far worse.
It was a Russian GRU officer. That should scare people

here is part of the 1940 Republican platform

              Hawaii
Hawaii, sharing the nation’s obligations equally with the several States, is entitled to the fullest measure of home rule; and to equality with the several States in the rights of her citizens and in the application of our national laws.

              Puerto Rico
Statehood is a logical aspiration of the people of Puerto Rico who were made citizens of the United States by Congress in 1917; legislation affecting Puerto Rico, in so far as feasible, should be in harmony with the realization of that aspiration.
Why do they call out Hawaii as being deserving of full statehood immediately, but PR as logical candidate for statehood? I'm not sure, but clearly the Republicans used to at least be open about PR statehood.

I shouldn't need to convince you of anything. It's the right thing to do. Denying millions of American Citizens full representation is shameful. You don't think PR would be treated better if they had two votes in the Senate?

Nope. I don't. I used to. But not now. Reagan changed that and it's only gotten worse.

Simple math. When votes from the state of Puerto Rico are needed in the House and Senate- backs will be scratched. Just like every other issue. Right now, they don't have that luxury.

And remember, RIGHT NOW, there are enough voters from Puerto Rico living in Texas and Florida to really upset the balance of power in both states. That's a pretty big deal, too.

Sure. For rich people in Puerto Rico. That does nothing for the majority of their residents.

World-weary cynicism isn't profundity, its just laziness. Either fight or support those who fight.

There is nothing wrong that a restoration of democracy won't cure. You have to have some faith.

I think the founding principles are still sound: government needs to have the consent of the governed and governing institutions must have separate powers and checks and balances. The fundamental problems are:

                        1. Money distorts priorities and forces government to be responsive to its holders and not the people.
                        2. Education, if not intelligence, is very low for a very large portion of the people. They can be fooled easily.
                        3. Technology magnifies the advantages of the strong at the expense of the weak.

We need to retain all of our principles but also build in safeguards which recognize the pernicious effects of those realities.

WASHINGTON — President Trump threatened on Friday to veto a $1.3 trillion spending package just hours before the government was set to shut down for lack of funds, lashing out over its failure to fund his long-promised border wall.

“I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded,” Mr. Trump posted on Twitter in a message that imperiled a sweeping bipartisan agreement brokered by congressional leaders over his objections.

I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded.
                            — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 23, 2018

He was referring partly to the fact that he failed to reach a deal with Democrats to include provisions in the spending measure that would preserve Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, an Obama-era program he rescinded last fall that allows undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children to apply for permits to work legally and avoid deportation.

But Mr. Trump’s failure to secure an agreement on that issue was hardly the only one on which lawmakers defied him in approving the bill. The measure itself deals a broad rebuke to the president’s vision for reordering the size and scope of government, rebuffing his efforts to gut many domestic programs even as it provided the sizable military spending increase Mr. Trump wanted.

Trump threatening shutdown. Wants Wall funding, cuts to domestic programs, and huge military budget. Cynically includes DACA which is complete BS and anyone with a brain knows it.

They matter. We cleaned the Augean stables in 2008. We would have done more had Obama not been hamstrung by his ideals and had he not dawdled like Hamlet.

It only takes one Democratic wave to undo Dump's executive actions and the GOP Congress' statutory rape of the Republic. State and local is harder because the 1% have those on lockdown with their bribes, so campaign finance reform is the prerequisite for making America America again.

It's a hard job: the plutes and their zombie army are no joke. It's a multi-generational job since as you so well put it this has been the work of 38 years of dedicated Republican evil. But we can do it. We beat George III, Robert E. Lee, and Adolph Hitler. We can beat Paul F-cking Ryan.
