Re: American and Canadian U16/U19 AAA Hockey

    First post!

Wanted to discuss Selects Academy for a bit. A relatively new program with an insane amount of success on both the 16 and 19 front. With 7 D1 comittments on the U16 side, it will be interesting to see who moves up to play U19 and who stays. If even some of these U16 commitments opt to play up, I'm calling for a top 5 Selects Acadamy U19 team next season.

    Selects Academy U16 Comittments:

    Sydney Wegner (F) 2002 2021 Mercyhurst
    Caroline Harvey( D) 2002 2021 Wisconsin
    Mia Coene (F) 2002 2020 Princeton
    AJ Weiss (D) 2001 2019 Mercyhurst
    Katie Davis (F) 2002 2020 Harvard
    Kiara Zanon (F) 2002 2020 Penn State
    Ellie Reiter (F) 2002 2020 Yale

** Interesting to note that only ONE of the goalies in both the U19 and U16 programs is comitted**
    Hannah Lindey (G) 2000 2018 Oswego

Shouldn’t be a surprise that Selects recruited top players given who runs it. She recruited many girls who already had commitments or were well on their way to committing. Selects didn’t develop the players. Can’t argue with their success but no one should be surprised that they got top talent.

I'm not totally surprised about the goalie situation. At times it's hard to gage the quality of the tender because of the ridiculous talent in front of them. Sometimes the coaches, even at the National level, like to scout a Brianne McLaughlin type, who played on a mediocre RMU club, yet earned a spot on the Olympic team.

Chicago Young Americans U19 Team and U16 CYA Scouting Report

Majority of the U19 team is committed, many D1. Team is captained by Anne Bloomer (F, 2018, Harvard) and Hayley Kliczko (G, PG, Brown). Currently ranked at the #9 spot nationally (right below Mission). As Mission has been inconsistent this year and drastically lacking the skill they had last season, it's my humble opinion that CYA should be above Mission and that Mission does not deserve the #8 spot this year. However, I favor the Mission U16 team in Nationals this year.

Regardless, anyone that is going to follow Nationals this year should be on the lookout for the Chicago Young Americans U19 team going deep. With an older, more experienced group of leaders, CYA has the maturity and skill to win a national championship.

It will also be interesting to see who the CYA U19 team will be composed of next year...

The young and struggling U16 team has an abundance of D1 prospects, but most are super young.

Kylie Makuh (2020, F) is a skilled power forward that is likely to move up if she isn't scooped up by a prep school or by the Mission.
Sofia Simon (2020, D) is also likely to move up presuming that she doesn't sign elsewhere.
Katey McCarty (2020, D) was stretchered off the ice earlier this season after taking a hit from behind vs Little Ceasers in a JWHL game. She has been plagued with injuries this season and the last with the Chicago Mission. McCarty is a physical force with insane offensive skill. Hopefully she will be able to return next season, most likely as a U19.
Grace Kedziora (2021, G) is a tactical and athletic goalie of decent size. Watch out for her at national selection camps and for a D1 commitment in the next few months. She is only a freshman but might be needed to replace the post-graduate Hayley Kliczko at the U19 level.

Ella Ridge (2021, D) is a raw, skilled defenseman with a powerful shot and huge offensive presence.
Addie Carr (2021, D) plays the game with a calmness that is beyond her years. Her advanced hockey sense, size (5'10"), and physical strength make her a player to keep an eye out for next season.
Kate Carfagnini (2021, F) is a forward who has vastly improved in recent months. Despite her small stature (5'2"), Carfagnini brings a physical prescence to the game. She has strong puck handling skills and it will be interesting to see how she develops as she gets older.
Anya Weildandt (2022, F) is DEFINITELY a prospect to watch out for. Weildant plays a hugely physical game and is already of decent size as an 8th grader (5'7"). She has a strong shot and great sense of the game.
Jill Hertl, (2022, G) plays an insanely athletic game. Hertl is already tall for her age and already exhibits the skills needed for a D1 goalie.

Due to young prospects, I predict that the CYA U16 team will be in the top 10 next season.

Agreed - better to be on an average team to see more shots in front of the scouts.

That's true. Given their resources, it isn't too surprising that they have so many commitments.

Since their inception the Selects group has been famous for taking credit for "developing" the players that sign on with their summer teams, etc, but they are nothing more than a genuine money grab worse than KK out of Ontario.

Re: American and Canadian U16/U19 AAA Hockey

                    Detroit LC U16

LC is ranked at an impressive and hard-earned #8 slot. Composed of highly skilled, experienced players, LC is heavily favored to play in the National Championships this year. However, given that the team's overall average height is only 5'4", it is likely that LC will run into some size problems...

Anyway, here are some players to watch out for:

Rayla Clemons (F, 2020) is an uncommitted, highly skilled and speedy forward who sees a lot of playtime as a returning 2001 player.
Courtney Hall (F, 2019) is committed to St. Cloud State. Hall is a skilled forward with incredible hockey sense.
Morgan Neitzke (F, 2021) is a young, speedy forward who also has a strong physical presence. Be on the lookout for a D1 commitment from her this summer.
Amanda Thiele (G, 2020) is a goalie of decent size and plays a strong tactical game. Thiele is committed to Ohio State.

LC's talent runs pretty deep. It will be interesting to see how they match up agaisnt the big and physical Belle Tire team come state.

This will be my first post too! I've been lurking here for several years and this thread is finally something I can contribute to. There is going to be lots of great hockey this weekend in Washington DC at the JWHL's Challenge Cup. My guess is that most of the D1 teams will have several commits playing in these games. It takes place Thursday thru Monday at two different rinks, Kettler (U19) and Rockville (U16 & U14). Some of the teams attending are:

                        WASHINGTON PRIDE
                        CHICAGO YOUNG AMERICANS
                        LITTLE CAESARS
                        NEWBRIDGE ACADEMY
                        NAHA
                        BOSTON SHAMROCKS
                        OTTAWA LADY 67'S
                        NORTHERN CYCLONES
                        HONEYBAKED
                        BELLE TIRE
                        ANAHEIM LADY DUCKS
                        CHICAGO MISSION
                        BALMORAL HALL SCHOOL
                        RIDLEY COLLEGE
                        STANSTEAD COLLEGE
                        ONTARIO HOCKEY ACADEMY
                        PACIFIC STEELERS
                        ANAHEIM LADY DUCKS
