By agreement, all D3 sports follow the same rules for selection in all sports. D1 is different. D2 is similar to D3, but they use different criteria. The presidents and athletic directors in each division make the rules. The D3 group has determined these rules. The criteria in D3 have been modified from time to time but those modifications apply to all sports. In D1, each sport is governed individually, and the football bowl system operates outside of the NCAA, but is subject to D1 rules.

The philosophy of the D3 governing body is the one set of rules should govern all sports. (Obviously, there is a difference between individual and team sports, but individual sports have the same kinds of rules for their championships as well, such as track and field, gymnastics, tennis, golf, etc.)

      You just supported my point.

D-3 chooses to tie it's own hands re: employing an objective set of criteria, for whatever obscure reason. (It brings to mind the Electoral College, vis-a-vis its illogical nature. That sort of system is the product of antiquated thought-process, if you ask me.)

And the main problem is that D3 membership is much larger than just the ones that play hockey. Any proposals that deviate from what works in other sports in order to help hockey is doomed to failure.

Think they chance having a Point/Adrian quarter?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the committee paired Adrian with St. Norbert to try to avoid the Point/Adrian game. (SNC is also within 500 miles, and avoiding conference matchups is only a thing in women’s d3 hockey). With Point and SNC both likely in the field, along with the MIAC winner, it’s hard to justify the usual shenanigans of pairing the Bulldogs with the likes of Oswego/Hobart/Geneseo based solely on the 500 mile rule.

Depends on the results of the NCHA/WIAC Conference playoffs over the next three weeks...

                        Re: Regional Rankings

I think there would be a strong case for Adrian/SNC/Stevens Point to be three of the top 5 overall seeds, which would likely lead to an 8-4 split and all play-ins in the East.

Is your need to look important so strong that you aren't aware of the reasons you're the only committee member who has to come on here and run your mouth about these things all the time? Probably too much to ask but think about it there are reasons your colleagues don't do these things and probably are the same reasons the groans about you get louder every year. Be quiet for a change and do a little asking around. It would be helpful.

Derek's presence on this discussion board well precedes his membership on any NCAA committees. His discussion here simply continues the role he has played here since he was mere lad.
