Angus believed what he was told about you can get this or that, sure he has a contract for now.... but it's my experience that the goalies you tend to see make it are goalies that stay around for 4 years, Conner Hellybuyck for instance. And if Angus doesn't get his performance up he won't last that full time.
I thought Roy was right to go, I don't think he could have improved his value by staying, but the odds are, if you sign in the ECHL, you are not making the NHL and you might as well get your degree. At least that way you have something you can do besides grocery clerk, once you graduate. If I was a player, i'd ask the coach if he thought I was ready to leave, I think the coach is a much more reliable place to get advice than some agent from Winnipeg or Montreal.
At this moment, I don't think there are any players on our roster who wouldn't benefit from another year here. Just my humble opinion though.
Regarding Redmond, I believe Coach Pearson and Coach Shawhan both commented that they did not think he was ready to go when he signed. I think these guys get stars in their eyes when they get the offer, in the grand scheme of things what does Anaheim have to lose if he doesn't pan out, chump change to them, but if he does then they are sitting pretty. Redmond however has a lot to lose if things don't pan out with Anaheim as he will have very little value being utilized as he is now. Big mistake IMHO.

Regarding MTUs current goaltending situation this is how I would look at the remainder of the year. (This is from a totally unprofessional, hometown bias, point of view)

All three GAA is very similar Munson 2.83, Kero 2.66 and Beydoun 2.38. Save percentages Munson 0.900, Kero 0.900, Beydoun 0.905. Munson W/L record is 7-7-3, Kero's 3-2-1, Beydouns 3-2-1. On paper they all look the same, game experience looks similar, all look good at times, all struggle at times. How do you differentiate between the 3. For me there is one intangible that most coaches wouldn't even think about or consider but could and maybe should be a difference maker. I'm probably going to get a lot of crap for even saying this but here we go.

Kero bleeds black and gold, the kid has grown up with this team, his brother played for this team, he's got younger brothers that desire to play for this team. I personally feel with the coaches confidence behind him this kid could carry this team through a nice playoff run. Put him in there for the rest of the season regardless of his results and force him to either perform or he's done. Give him a chance to sink or swim. There's not much to lose at this point. I honestly believe that his pride in this program, unlike the other 2 (and I'm not saying they don't have pride but once they're gone it may not matter to them, it will to Kero) could be a difference maker in how they finish but he needs the backing and full support of the coaching staff and the legitimate opportunity to succeed.

Just my opinion which certianly doesn't mean a thing.

Go Huskies, time to make a run!!!

Also, I think sometimes the club's that draft college kids think they will develop better in the minors with their own coaches than with college coaches. Isn't that what happened to Khaira?

The difference is Khaira played when he left, Redmond isn't playing much and when he is playing doesn't look like he is playing well. Again, I hope he has a very successful hockey career.

I think Joe is going to keep playing musical goalies until someone gets us that 1 in 7 scoring chances number. The numbers don't favor any goalie. I don't think your suggestion of Kero is all bad. There is a sentimental reason to go with Kero. Some might say to go with Packy because he is the most experienced. Still others might say go with Robbie as he has the most room for growth. With those numbers, all three goalies are/belong in the doghouse. It sounds like Joe has at least a goalie or possibly two he is eyeing for the near future.

Whomever he goes with, I think we're to the point in the season where he needs to sink or swim with one guy.

I like Kero for the reasons stated. Even though he too gives up some leakers, I also think the team plays better in front of him.

I can also see the argument for Beydoun because he'll be around for 3 more years and he could use some good experience and confidence to hopefully carry into next season.

I would be happy with either of them. I don't like the idea of Munson though. I was a little apprehensive last summer when I heard they were bringing in a guy to play on his 3rd team in 3 seasons. Since then I haven't seen any reason not to trust my original instincts about him.

But I will also throw in the disclaimer that I don't know any of these kids nor do I know how they are in the dressing room or at practice.

That being said, from what he said on the Joe Show yesterday about spending money to get someone in next year, I get the feeling he's not happy and doesn't see any of them as a #1 now or next year.

    I like this team.

Things i'd like to see better. PP percentage. PK percentage. I'd like to see us score a shorty every once in a while. Missing the net: we really miss the net a lot and then the puck rings around and out the other team comes. When we shoot wide, it's too wide. Turnovers, it would be good if we got it deep better instead of turning it over. odd man rushes. we get 3 x2's regularly but we never feed the trailer?

I would like to see the fanbase get behind this team and this coaching staff (who are doing well) and root the team on to the successful completion of the season and a long playoff run.

This is a talented team with a lot of potential. We all know that goaltending as a whole has struggled. There has also been a frustrating lack of scoring. I don't know that it's anything the coaching staff is doing or not doing. Soft goals in our zone and missed chances in theirs add up quickly.

I've said all season that if this team snaps out of its scoring funk, which I believe it can, and any of the 3 goalies gets hot, which I believe they can, this team has the talent to beat anyone in the WCHA and most in the NCAA.

I think the fan base is very much still behind this team as referenced by the MTU contingents at all away contests this season. MTU showing at FSU was impressive considering the bridge was closed Friday. Very impressive numbers on Saturday.
If you are referring to the fan base on here I believe most of us are supportive of this team, like this team, like the coaching, just looking for more consistency and more wins.

You do realize that MTU is scoring at a higher rate this season than last right?
They've scored 3+ goals in 12 of their last 15 games.

I brought that up previously along with the fact that they are better than last season, as coach has said many time recently, in scoring chances for, less scoring chances against. The power play percentage is almost identical to last season. PK % however is down considerably but in my opinion has to do with very poor goaltending, as again, they are giving up less scoring chances.

This is a good team, I believe in large part to a strong focus by the coaching staff to the "details" and playing the right way. Now they just need to figure out how to get one of the goaltenders to perform!

I'm with you...part of me thinks Joe just needs to pick one and go with or have a set rotation that is known, but they continually make him second guess any ability to do that because they keep giving up soft goals.

I agree with him picking one and live or die by him. There are 8 regular season games left, virtually no chance of home ice and hardly a difference in who they would play in the first round so ride 1 guy for the next 8 games and hopefully by the end of the 8 the guy is comfortable enough and confident enough to make a good playoff run. Just don't pick Munson or Beydoun, sorry guys, just my opinion for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I'm frustrated with a lot of missed "Grade A" scoring chances. If you're not capitalizing on them when you're giving up soft goals it makes for a tough season.

Also, missing shots you should bury changes affects the momentum of the game a lot. I think there were a few games this year where getting that timely goal would have been worth a lot more than just one higher digit on the scoreboard.

    I like this team.

I really think Lesperance's inability to score on a lot of grade A's have hurt them a bit. Lucchini also gets a lot of grade A's and doesn't even get it on net. As coach mentioned in this weeks JSH, Lesperance could be a 30 to 40 point guy if 1) he buried more of his own grade As and 2) if his line mates would bury the grade A's he sets up for them. Not sure there is a fix, I think either you got it or you don't, but those 2 sure do get the chances. I have noticed, aside from maybe Gould, that unless we get a 1 timer off of a great pass the guys seem to just take a shot. I don't see anyone consistently trying to get the goalie to move/commit before shooting. The guys just skate in and take a shot. I remember a nice goal by Smith a few weeks back where, I believe, he accidentally fanned on it, the goalie moved, Smith recovered got the shot off and scored. He joked later that it was intentional. I honestly believe that in order to score against D1 goalies (except MTUs) you need either a screen in front, a quick pass and one timer/tap in, or some type of deceptive move that gets the goalie moving before the shot is taken. Very few goalies are going to get beat on a basic shot straight on no matter how hard it is.

On another note, does anyone have any insight as to the injury status. As of Monday on the JSH the coach said they probably would not have a full 22 man travel roster this week and from the sounds of it may need Rockwell and Russell to travel. Questionable as of Monday were Baltus, Donahue, Reinke, Misiak, Jackson, Gilles and obviously Ford is out for the season. There are 24 skaters listed on the current roster with the 7 potential injuries that leaves 17 total skaters. There are 15 forwards, 9 defenseman. 4 foward potentially out and 3 defenseman potentially out. This leaves 11 forward and 6 defenseman for game duty if all previously injured are still out. The coach did allude to other injuries suffered in the FSU series but stopped short of givng any details. It is going to be a very interesting weekend.

L'Esperance currently has 11 points. How do you think the W-L would look if he had 20 more?

But I can't put all the blame on one guy. What if the team as a whole had 20 more goals on the season?

Should be an interesting weekend. What I have seen from this team is they will give it everything they have. I'll be there cheering them on.

Missing chances is true with every team. I will admit it seems to happen to some players more than others. Of course they would win a lot more games if they could score more. I hope our bench can get their game legs fast and is ready for a tough physical game.

    Go Tech!

Looks like Munson made the trip also. Couldn't see the other goalie. Going to be interesting to see who starts.
