We have a commitment from Nick Nardella, a 5'9", 157 lb. forward with Green Bay (USHL) whose 19th birthday is today. Nick has 1 goal and 3 assists for Green Bay in 27 games, and is −5 on a team where the range is +6 to −10. His brother is Notre Dame junior defenseman Bobby Nardella, and his father is Chicago Wolves (AHL) assistant coach Bob Nardella.

Nick's hometown is Rosemont, Illinois, which is where the Wolves play (his father played for them before coaching). Fun fact about Rosemont: its small residential neighborhood is a gated community surrounded by freeways and O'Hare International Airport, but according to the sign at the gate, if you refuse to answer the security guard's questions, you'll still be allowed in. The remainder of Rosemont consists of hotels, restaurants and the arena formerly known as Rosemont Horizon.

he brings the list of Michigan Tech commitments to 21, the most of any WCHA team. I'm scratching my head a little on this one and the role he might be slotted to play. A little undersized for power forward. Not a five star high end scorer. Not a defensive specialist (his overall +/- for his time in the USHL is something like -17). It will be interesting to see the plan come together over the next few seasons.

The team is going to have quite a different look in a couple of years. As in smallish. Fourteen of our recruits are under 6'. Eight of those are 5'9" or shorter.. Must be some of the most hard nosed little guys we've ever seen.

Just read that Beydoun gets the start tonight, no Reinke, Gillies, or Baltus this weekend. Hopefully that means Seamus is back
Should be a good one tonight, Go Huskies!

It would be nice to have Donahue back. Too bad we can't seem to get Reinke and Gillies healed up. It does seem odd to me that Baltus travelled with the team to Ferris and was a pre game skate away from playing and yet two weeks later he's still out. I hope it's not the blood clot issue again.

    GO HUSKIES!

Hope it works. He must want a team of Scrappy-Doos.

Bigger taller players offer a lot of advantages when it comes to physical play, blocking shots, creating screens in front of goalies, fighting through defenders,... Unfortunately they take a little longer/may never develop.

Has Joe said he rather deal with a known player than one who may or may not develop? May have heard that on one of JSH, but I could be wrong.

    Let's Go Tech!!

We are graduating 5 senior forwards this year. IMO, it's quite likely Nardella is a recruited walk-on. Nothing wrong with that, as long as they have a plan to develop him, just like they've done with Raymond Brice.

Scrappy-Doos only get you so far and that's usually not too far.

As they say SPEED kills and if you size with that speed then you got it.

He's slated to come in for 2019-20. Who do they bring in next fall to replace those 5?

We have six senior forwards: Anderson, Baltus, Blacklock, Gillies, L'Esperance and Steman. Anderson and Blacklock were formerly listed as redshirts on Tech's website, but no longer. Guessing they will not return.

In that case, I have the following recruits coming in: Andrew Bellant, Trenton Bliss, Alex Broetzman, Tommy Parrottino, TJ Polglaze and Jagger Williamson.

Careful what you wished for coach. You wanted head shots called; there you go. They didn't even look at it to make sure. I don't like the call myself.

Hmmm. He's been critical of the officials lately. Could that have played into the call?

I'm pretty discouraged by that game. I guess I shouldn't be but we just made so many mistakes! Lost so many key face-offs, especially in the second and didn't seem to be into it until the third when the game was decided in the second. Sigh! I thought Beydoun was ok, but not great. We didn't win puck battles either. And the feed quit on me over and over and over. I finally gave up and just tuned into dirk.
I didn't think we were very good blocking shots. one we gave up on, went in the net.

Coach was not happy with the effort. He captured most of my thoughts in the post game. I hope that turns things around overnight, with plenty of distractions. Need to win by 3.

I'll be real surprised if we win at all.

He should wash their balls when they don't play well, I am sure that will help.

I see the revolving door of goaltending continues tonight.

I really don't think they played any different tonight. The goaltender stopped pucks and pucks went in for MTU.
The effort in my humble opinion was the same as last night.

Iíve wanted to see Kero back in the net. I will never be a fan of riding a goalie that is giving up lots of goals, just so the team is comfortable. Kero got his chance tonight, and looked good. The save at the end of the period is the type of stuff that inflates a team.

That said, I donít think there is a huge difference in goalies right now. last week the GAA was within .oo5 or so, and I doubt any one is going to emerge at this point.

I donít understand the day/ night difference in this team. At least they are kicking butt on saturdays, so I can feel good all week long.

It's all about transition to Joe's ideas/system, and unfortunately some average-at-best goaltending, mixed in with flashes of brilliance. The hysterics here the last 2-3 months have been hilarious.
