I hope that Fontaine doesn't continue to rapidly improve or we will lose him as we did Swankler. At least the fact that he is at a Prep school indicates that he is interested in academics.

Didn’t Swankler commit at 15 technically? I think the kid committed too early and didn’t fully know what he would be offered (and he probably improved). Fontaine is older (in hockey committing terms) and probably has a much better idea of what he wants, and what he’ll be offered.

While every kid can technically back out, I believe that will remain the exception, not the rule. Besides, I like that the staff identified a talented player and got him to commit before others did. That’s a good thing, even if it didn’t turn out how we would’ve liked.

Yes, AS committed to RPI on 07/31/17 and he was born on 08/21/01, so he was not yet 16.

ESPN radio this AM discussed the active NCAA consideration and likely movement on the idea of allowing D1 players - apparently from all sports- to transfer to another D1 school without sitting out a year. (I don't know what the news source as that led them to discuss it today)

Details under review include: a set window of time (similar to a signing period) when a player could opt to move. This would be a one time event for a player (not counting the graduate year rule -which would remain )

This appears to be driven somewhat by the job jumping coaches at big football programs and giving the athletes some leverage in that dynamic. So, if approved ,the back alley poaching of players will now happen in a bit more daylight.

Edit: Proposal would also include minimum GPA standards for transfer

Edit 2 : I just noticed that Turk posted this last night on the main thread 😜

On Thursday, Lawrence Academy lost to Milton Academy 3-2. Based upon tweets Gunnarwolfe Fontaine had no points. I assumed that he played. I will post the box score link when Neutral Zone has it.

                                Fontaine's line is now 15-6-13-19-X.
