Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Sirius XM has been garbage for years. I'm honestly surprised he didn't have a platform there for years already.

On my honeymoon we had my father's truck because we brought along the boat and we don't have a vehicle that can tow anything. Northern Wisconsin didn't have any FM stations worth listening to, and internet service was spotty at best. Sirius XM it was. We heard that effing Despacito song 100 times in 10 days. Not exaggerating. We were all over the place on the dial. Despacito. Everywhere. Went to a talk station about science. DESPACITO. I'm not kidding. 100 times. We weren't in the stupid truck more than 20 minutes a day. DESPACITO. On our way back we finally hey back into range of Twin Cities FM stations. DESPACITO!!

    Anyway... Trump sucks, right?

It's kinda like when all the rednecks were burning their Dixie Chicks CDs back in 2003. Except different.

Sirius wants to give that racist smuck a platform, people can choose not to support their business with their wallets. Free markets in action.

You like free markets, don't you?

Satellite doesn't work on ratings, dumbass.

While correct that Neilson doesn't work/partner with SiriusXM, they do have internal ratings numbers that they're secretive on how they work. I don't think every radio phone's home what you're listening to, but they do have some way of knowing a ballpark of what their listeners like.

This is the reason that the "lesser" channels always get bumped for specialty channels/Christmas and why certain stations now have DJ's on them more frequently (IE: Rich from Covino and Rich now also voice tracks/DJ's on Pop2K.)

Radio Classics was and is great. Insight picked up Radio Lab and deGrasse Tyson's Star Talk and those are also great. The Met Opera station is also great.

            I don't know what you're talking about.

They moved Madison from First Wave to Faction when they were trying to establish it. It made little sense since her style is the embodiment of, say, Martha and the Muffins, not Black Flag, though it does makes their transition to more surf punk lately more consistent. But she is very popular and recognizable.

Here's the kicker, he's *returning* to SiriusXM. He already was a co-host on XM125 for the same Breitbart News themed program back before the Trump campaign.

Blocking the channel doesn't mean your subscription dollars don't go to that host.

I'm sure people stopped watching ESPN far before they started dropping cable. But ESPN made so much money on those subscribers that they expanded and spent too much money on more than a few contracts. It took people dropping basic cable for ESPN to actually react to that change.

I also question if you are harmed or not- if the abortion channel could be traced to increased abortions, does that not harm you even if you don't listen? Just like if Bannon's talking on satellite radio leads to more far right wing things going on, that would harm us, too.

what if part of the money you pay for your cable subscription goes to the abortion channel and therefore you are helping to fund those abortions? How can you just ignore the channel when you know you are helping to fund it by continuing with your subscription?

That reminds me, I need to cancel my subscription. I got a cheap 6 month introductory rate after my free preview that came with my truck expired. If course they let you activate that online, but they make you call to cancel...

I usually listen to NPR on my way to work, and there are a bunch of Sirius dead spots around here anyway (too many trees & hills blocking my signal I guess?).

The Mel Karmazin era and merger were a dark spot for SiriusXM (Moreso, XM; Sirius benefitted from the hostile takeover). XM was always a labor of love from music lovers who begrudgingly had to compete against the "Were just like FM but on Satellite!" that Sirius was.

With the takeover, a lot of music playlists shrunk and decade and popular stations were "Top40'd" towards death. The few remaining XM staff have held on with death grips to what they can.

Other XM originals have gone and move on to Slacker.

Depends on your service (Sirius or XM (Yes, they're the same company, but they use different birds to broadcast still)).

Sirius uses orbiting satellites, so you always float in and out of coverage. XM uses geo-sync'd satellites, so they have less dead spots unless you "don't have a view of the southern sky."

Never had any issues with Sirius between Twin Cities and the UP, Chicago, and Kansas City.
