  • MIAC Week 1 - What have we learned?

MIAC goes 11-4-1 in week one Non-conference action.

Observations: Is the conference up this year?

They go 2-1-1 against WIAC, 9-3 against NCHA (maybe NCHA is just down this year).

Looks like St. Thomas is going to compete even with all the lost personnel. St. Mary's was reportedly down, but won both their games. Bethel crushed Aurora, but probably shouldn't have scheduled that new program. St. Olaf gets 3 out of 4 points against UWSP. Gustavus only played once and Hamline hasn't opened yet.

Re: MIAC Week 1 - What have we learned?

Starting Thursday and going through next Tuesday will be a good indicator of how the MIAC and WIAC teams compare to each other.

Observations: Concordia-Moorhead splitting (being shutout Sat.) was surprising. St. Olaf beats and ties UWSP was surprising. Teams with solid/above average goalies will have good years. UST will always be towards the top, even if they cannot qualify for post season play. Sweeping at Lake Forest proves they will be again towards the top. They usually stumble in January against someone like St. Olaf or Kate's, but like MNDAD said, they have the personnel and history to be there in March.

Match Up's this weekend to watch: Hamline at UWEC on Thursday night, UWSP at UST and UWS at St. Kate's. River Falls and Bethel also play.

Re: MIAC Week 1 - What have we learned?

Results from this past weekend were in favor of the WIAC schools. UWEC beats Hamline 3-0 and UWRF jumps out quick and finishes strong over Bethel. UWS and St. Kate's were even after 2 until UWS pulls away, while UST and UWSP played with St. Thomas controlling the play and winning 2-1.

Saturday looked more interesting with UWEC and GAC playing to a 2-2 tie in St. Peter. Not very often do the Gusties get out-shot (especially at home(r)) St. Thomas doubles up and sweeps Point with a 4-2 win. UWS and St. Kate's looked even until the last 3 minutes and UWRF outshoots and outscores Bethel in a 5-2 win.

On the weekend the MIAC goes 2-5-1 with UST getting both.
