Note to the defeatists: sometimes protest works, sometimes the good guys win.

It is too easy to just curl up and die. And it makes the job of the evil that much easier. Don't obey in advance, don't let cynicism stop you from resisting, make them fight for every inch of ground and claw it back the second they are attacked from another quarter. Flank, support, bombard, harry, sabotage.

Here's one thing I've kind of recently figured out/observed.

Republicans, as a net average, really enjoy being angry. A lot. Which is why you see more anger and fear ridden shows (radio, internet, TV, Blogs) that are on the right side than the left. And that anger lingers for a very long time. One should note that every show does not really come up with solutions, but they are angry at something. And that net anger elects angry people.

Democrats, as a net average, don't like being angry. So instead of having a lot of pent up anger, there are more people who see problems and try to solve them.

It's easier to make a person angry, and keep them that way than be creative and see the real problems to solve. You can replace anger with fear.

This explains why the net average of the republican leaning message has turned from beating the democrats to beating the boogy man/minorities/ "evil legislation". And when none of that shows a solution to the recent changes- like the "end of the war on coal"- the fear and anger can still be directed at democrats- even thought that's totally irrational.

Right now, I have to republicans that are still blaming democrats and Obama for how the ACA has been totally ruined, and not solved, by the current set of morons running the government. Here in my office as I speak. Morons.

Again, zero solutions, but anything Obama did was bad and is to blame.

Also, the guy acting as President yesterday blamed Congress for him not getting anything done. The same guy blamed Barack Obama on Twitter even though we all know it was Turtle Boy.

Oh, and the thing I posted yesterday about the opioid story from 60 Minutes and the Washington Post. Apparently Congress has added to their plate to write a law rescinding the law they passed with unanimous consent. Also, the drug czar choice from Trump who wrote the law they're now trying to rescind has taken his name out of the hat.

Oh, and everyone at the DEA who went to work for drug companies to cash out. You're all drip slime.

President F-cking Moron (PFM) holding steady at a tic under 40% approval. Dude could hold an oval office address where he just sh-ts into Ivanka's mouth and the needle wouldn't move.

You certainly didn't arrive at this conclusion reading USCHO political threads.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Yeah, I gotta say as loathsome as I find the GOP's sad suckers along many indices of character, they are no angrier than we angelic liberals.

I think it would be more accurate to say conservatives are more attracted to "listening to their gut." That process tends to truncate debate. The epitome of conservative thinking is the secular version of this:

That mindset sees debate itself as a repudiation, because it said all there needs to be said right up front. Analysis and criticism, once you've made up your mind, are no longer valuable -- they're at best masturbation, but more likely a ploy by the other side to get you to backslide.

I have no idea where this psychology comes from: authoritarianism, bad parenting, too much alcohol in the blood surrogate. But as a wild over-generalization, if I was going to draw a distinction between liberal and conservative thought, I'd start there.

That's the problem, people are angry on the left (and not just after the election) and then they wind up with some robot candidate who wants to keep the status quo.

Status Quo? Really. That's what we're going with. Well, I hope everyone is deliriously happy with the change we have now. Cause we certainly have that. Oh, and "status quo" would have been continuing the good things Barack Obama did. Now? That 8 years is gone. All of it. It never happened. You may as well have had Trump get elected right after W. Congrats.

The point is the left can use similar tactics to win.

While it can, it doesn't work as well.

Fear for the NRA and anger for the "baby killers" is more powerful than being poor and angry that you can't have health care that the democrats want to solve. And every time the democrats bring up ideas that help people, then the R's can counter that with fear of communism and socialism.

In other words, campaigning on fear does better than campaigning on help.
