Are these all changes from the coach, or are some players leaving on their own accord?

What I have been told so far by a couple of the players the changes that are happening are at the discretion of the HC. I've also heard that there are no fewer than 11 recruits coming in next year. As for Ralph's comments on player ages, I couldn't agree more. College hockey is quite ridiculous with the age of its freshman. The only good thing that has come of it is that these players are more serious about their studies and graduation rates among hockey players are the highest of any of the major sports programs. With that being said, the impact of being an overage player and then a change in HC puts a huge impact in these young men's lives.

What I wonder, and I have no knowledge of, what is the impact of a player that is let go from the team? What happens to their scholarships? I've been told they are only valid for 1 year and others have told me that the institution can't eliminate their scholarship so which is it? Ive heard that Bradley Bell remained at RPI and his scholarship was kept intact. if these players are removed from the team why then can't they immediately transfer to another D1 program. The boys who left last year went to D3 schools so they could play right away but would have had to sit a year otherwise. With the exception of Melanson who was a graduate transfer. Why does the NCAA not permit players to move if a coach pushes them out?

Any one have any answers to these questions?

I think all three are definitely at risk. Öhrwall I see as being safe. Reisinger probably not, Marrello I just don't know if we know enough, especially given the dirty hit at SLU.

The best we can hope for with Coach Smith is that doesn't completely lose the room. Keep morale as best as he can, and then once the season's through, wheel and deal.

Appert always had a tendency to honor the scholarship, as we saw when Reed Kipp was cut. I'm sure the school will have something to say about the scholarships, but I wouldn't be surprised if Smith doesn't want to waste any of the 18 on cut players; it'll come down to who bends.

The NLI is good for one year. A renewal process may happen after that, but we'll see who gets renewed. The D1-D1 one year wait is a bylaw of the NCAA, although I've heard rumors about certain institutions wanting to convince the NCAA to do away with it. The graduate one makes sense because you've graduated, and you can make a very legitimate case that your previous institution did not offer the advanced degree program you desire, not to mention you have to re-apply. As for D1-D3, no idea why that is.

We know already 11 players for next season although perhaps some of these aren't coming and others may be added: Ashbrook, Babichuk, Bendorf, DiGrande, Ferner, Gornall, Lacka, Lee, Linden, Modry, and Savory,

While certainly not the final word on the venture, initial revenues are certainly below expectations.

Haven't been to Rivers. Are the table rules play friendly? Del Lago has been doing decently out here since the casino owner really knew what the player wants and knows that they'll get revenue anyway, so why be extra stingy, like Turning Stone?

The current recruits that were recruits at the time of the previous coach's dismissal: Babichuk, Bendorf, Matt Cameron, Modry. Two are D-men (Babichuk, Modry), while the other two are a 99 and 00. Wouldn't be surprised to see a deferral there.

Matt Cameron is not supposed to come until 2019 anyway. We could keep 9 defensemen as we had last year, so Modry and Babichuk could both come. Bendorf is the biggest question mark of those.

I’ve been there a few times. At first, they were extra stingy, but I guess they got some complaints so they’ve become a lot more customer friendly. But the biggest problem that they have there is that it’s not really in the best location and they were having a lot of construction both in the area around the casino and the roads leading to it. Now the roads are finished and hopefully things will improve. Now back to RPI hockey...

I’ve been there a few times. At first, they were extra stingy, but I guess they got some complaints so they’ve become a lot more customer friendly. That'd certainly explain why revenues have been so short. Although I do know something else that would help with attendance at our games...

Even though our record isn't all that hot, for the hand we have, it hasn't been too bad. Starting to see some good glimpses similar to the end of 08-09. Hopefully we can turn the corner when we're back to action.

I would be happier if the recruits seemed significantly better. A few are quite good, but some others appear worse than anything which we have.

Also, I really don't like recruiting a lot of 20- or 21-year-old players. As I have said on occasion in the past, no player should enter RPI who is older than I was when I graduated. We will have five of those in the class entering in the Fall, not counting Gornall.

If you look at the CHN site the range of ages runs from about 21 yr 4 m to about 22 yr 6 m for all the teams

I probably shouldn't post this when I wake up in the middle of the night, but I don't understand your post. No one enters in the fall as a freshman as 22 years and 6 months old unless they did not play hockey for a year. Could you post a link to the specific page which you are referring to because I rarely look at CHN?

I have to believe that he is talking about the average age of all college hockey teams. Not just the freshmen.

According to a certain college in Massachusetts (no, they do not have D1 hockey), they want freshmen to be known as “First Year Students”. They feel the term is sexist. The story was on the local news last night. I guess sophomores, juniors and seniors are ok for now...

Yale already does this. Not sure about others. Not a huge surprise given that they brought us the "safe space" concept.
