Re: Days Since Last Shooting II
So as discussed many times...there is a tight state relationship between lax gun laws and gun deaths. However, that doesn't always seem to hold in cities. For example, New Orleans and St. Louis are pretty much at the top in the heap for rate of gun death and those states have lax gun laws. Yet, Baltimore and Chicago also have pretty high gun deaths even though they have much stricter gun laws. What gives?
A new study from 538 took a look at that and discovered that much of the gun violence committed in these stricter gun law cities comes from lax gun law neighbors - a whopping 60% of guns used to commit crimes in Chicago from 2009 to 2013 came from other states (notably IN and WI).
These findings significantly reinforce the importance of gun laws by further showing that strict gun laws are definitely working...and that lax gun laws are resulting in even more deaths than thought.
