So as discussed many times...there is a tight state relationship between lax gun laws and gun deaths. However, that doesn't always seem to hold in cities. For example, New Orleans and St. Louis are pretty much at the top in the heap for rate of gun death and those states have lax gun laws. Yet, Baltimore and Chicago also have pretty high gun deaths even though they have much stricter gun laws. What gives?

A new study from 538 took a look at that and discovered that much of the gun violence committed in these stricter gun law cities comes from lax gun law neighbors - a whopping 60% of guns used to commit crimes in Chicago from 2009 to 2013 came from other states (notably IN and WI).

These findings significantly reinforce the importance of gun laws by further showing that strict gun laws are definitely working...and that lax gun laws are resulting in even more deaths than thought.

A gun by itself just sitting on a counter is neither good nor evil. A gun, by itself, cannot do anything. However, when it is picked up by a human being it becomes the instrument of mayhem or good, depending on the intent of the human.

Do we blame the car when a drunk plows into another vehicle and kills (murders?) a family? Of course not. We charge the drunk and let ju$tice take its course.

Wow. You stepped into it. We license cars. You have to take a test to get a license. You have to have INSURANCE to own the car. Your car is registered. You have license plates on the car and you have a license on the person.

Do that with guns and I'm fine with them.

No matter how many times the whole car/gun argument gets blown up there will always be another gun nut in line to make the argument again. It's not surprising, but it should be.

The ONLY thing I don't agree with it the registry. Some of the stuff Scoobs listed is already required, and the other stuff SHOULD be required.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Except for the person who drives a car without insurance, has a revoked license, steals plates, and does all manner of illegal things.

Laws are not going to stop someone who intends to break the law.
