PYEONGCHANG, South Korea – Brian O'Neill '12 had 163 points, including 69 goals, in his four-year hockey career at Yale, so fans in New Haven were not surprised to see the Team USA forward score a goal and hand out an assist in the men's opener of the Winter Olympic Hockey Tournament at Kwandong Hockey Center.

Big win tonight. Almost a must win with Cornell coming up tomorrow. Yale played well, especially the last 30 minutes. Thanks to Colgate for streaming the game.

Glad to see Evan Smith get back in the game after that tough collision. Great team effort in the third. Snively has been a wonder lately. Cornell is tough but can be taken down.

Use your speed and you beat Cornell tonight. You guys are very quick.
It all starts with the goaltending.

It was winnable but Yale really has no answer for a big team that cycles. Too many long stretches of possession in the Yale end tonight. Lost faceoffs cost them dearly as well, they were outplayed in virtually every statistical category except for save percentage. Kaz kept it close.

Faceoffs were a big problem. On the other hand, if you told me Yale would have two power play goals I would have expected a win.

I still think Saturday ECAC games on the road are the toughest to win.

Mark Arcobello '10 had a goal and Broc Little '11 and Brian O'Neill '12 had assists as Team USA survived a physical match to advance to the quarterfinal round with a 5-1 win over Slovakia Tuesday afternoon at the Gangneung Hockey Center.

I think many of the teams will go 1-1 over the weekend, the team in the middle of the pack that somehow manages 4 points, will win out obviously. Both games should be great at Ingalls this weekend, with the possibility of a Yale- QU matchup in the first round.

Speaking of the Rangers, they just traded for Rob O'Gara. Gave up Nick Holden. Clearly the Bruins felt that long term, O'Gara isn't the answer for the left side of their D. He'll get more of an opportunity with the Rangers especially if they deal McDonaugh.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the Rangers system, I don't know enough about the Wolf Pack to say whether O'Gara would be jumped by someone on that depth chart. Arcobello with a goal for the US last night and some nice work by O'Neil and Little to help the USA advance to the Olympic quarterfinals, they will have their hands full with the Czech team.

Some NHL front office type should take a long look at O'Neill. He was great against the Czechs. One inch lower and the US is still playing. With his speed and shot, a team like LA or Minnesota could really benefit.
