Re: Dartmouth BIG Green Hockey: 2017-18 Season

A HUGE BIg Green win vs a valiant Brown team that did not quit after quickly falling behind 3-0 at the end of one until they finally got their skating legs in at the start of the second erasing a 3 goal lead by scoring 2 quick goals...kudos for Brown for scatching back until the very end. And a much needed learning experience for the Big Green for blowing a 3 goal lead at home where they could/should have put Brown away and hung on for the W. The Kilistoff/Warpecha/Michalowski line played really well with their direct North/South game and playing below the dots with cycling and puck protection/ possession as they accounted for 3 of the 4 goal. The other lines did not did much including the top line of Graber/Kalk/Jasiek getting tons of PP time but enable to settle the puck and set up. The D pair of Yau/ Matthews continues to get tons of ice time in all situations EV/PP/PK as both are great skaters with good enough hands and skill. Buffalo had a good bounce back game with many key saves in the third to preserve the win. Let’s bring that confidence and swagger into a Yale team that beat Harvard last night.

Nice win last night. Is D the "sleeper" team now?

Thanks Mike Hutter! While that sounds **** for now and with me being a realist without rose-colored glasses, that "sleeper" term is is way too early in the season. We generally do play better at home so let's what happens when we hit the road.

Hey, every blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes....BIG GREEN with a home sweep and a clean slate with a 4-point weekend capped off with a hard-earned 3-1 victory over a game Yale squad. While the shot totals were down on both sides especially for the Big Green it was far from a boring game as both teams played a a fast pace throughout only to be stymied by good team defense. The good: great PK with great goaltending as Buffalo stood on his head. There was one play late in the third with the score 3-1 where Snively threaded a beautiful tape to tape pass to a righty back door, maybe the off wing D man only to have Buffalo stone him going post to post.. Everything about that play was NHL-caliber the pass, shot, and ensuing save.. The Kilsitoff/Warpecha/Michalowski line continue to score as a "checking line". The top D pair of Yau/Matthews did not give up a EV goal while matched up against Snively's line. The other pairs did good as well. The areas of improvement: PP absolutely stinks with no set up zone time for the first unit of Yau/Matthews with Jasiek/Graber/Kalk; poor puck retrieval. The top line of Graber/Kalk/Jasiek are not doing much while most of the Big Green's scoring are coming from its so called "checking line". As much ice time as Yau/Matthews receive they have to be putting up points granted they are mostly going against the opponents top line. All in all a great weekend for the Big Green!

A HUGE BIG Green congrats to Daniel Warpecha for earning ECAC Player of the Week honors...like I have been stating, that line of of Warpecha/Kilistoff/ Michalowski or Neily has been consistently the best for the Big Green with no non-sense North South directional play. That line can flat out win body/puck battles in in doing so can lead to both offensively opportunities and more importantly get the puck out of the D zone when the opponent has sustained O zone time. Oh BTW they are the "checking line" as well matched up against the top line and W/K also pair up to PK. A final note, it is very good that the Big Green is getting some "love" and pub from the press...of course it has to be earned!

Enclosed is a nice piece on the up and coming Big Green! I guess the "hockey Gods" granted my wish as far as the Big Green getting some pub and cred! Much deserved and earned!

While we are the subject of nice street pub and cred, enclosed is this nice stat and non-hockey at that. We know it is in all the players' dream to make it to the "big show" but we also know how difficult that it. Hence, you get your education (degree) and weigh your options. The Big Green caters to the student/athlete. Cheers for the Big Green!

The Big Green comes crashing down in a defeat to the Big Red and for this instance the color RED is better than Green. Disclaimer, I was not able to watch the game but based on the highlights and box score it looked like total domination by Cornell. Just based on highlights: on the first goal puck luck for the Big Red as I believe Shoup blocks initial shot then Cornell player is left all by himself in prime scoring position; on the second turnover at the Big Green blueline where if Strong leads Yau it could have been an odd man break the other way but Strong leaves it short and it stays in the zone for a goal; third not sure but looking at and times on the clock , it looked like jailbreak from the penalty box as Cornell it wide open on weak side for a breakaway goal. No time to wallow in defeat but rather bounce back and regroup for Colgate, maybe we catch them on "come-down" after beating Harvard last night.

A tough loss for the Big Green as they come up empty this weekend, culminating with a winnable 3-2 loss to Colgate. They just did NOT seem to have their legs and looked a bit tired. No excuses but the early 4pm game certainly did not help their recovery and travel from the previous night. Special teams special teams again reared its ugly head. Big Green were 0-4 on PP and 2-4 on PK thus and that's the difference. Like I stated at the beginning of the season, if the Big Green wins the special differential or at least come out even, they should be OK but thus far they haven't. Really a lackluster team effort , noting not due to effort but tiredness from the previous night. Congrats to Baker on his first collegiate goal coming against Point who was by far the best player on the ice. Point will play pro, just a matter of when.

Greetings from the Big Green! The Big Green are in their customary "bye" week as they studying for and taking final exams. Let's hope they focus and concentrate on their school work and using the practice time on the ice to relieve stress while also getting better. Good luck to all teams this weekend!

It's Game Day in Hanover as the Big Green hosts proximity partner Vermont! This will be interesting as the Big green did not play last week due to finals....will they come out re-energized and re-focused with all that practice time or sluggish due to the long break. Rest or Rust! From afar and just looking at stats this is a very winnable game for the Big Green especially with home-cooking! Go BIG GREEN!

Can you say "DISAPPOINTING" about last night's 2-1 OT loss to Vermont and that's after having a couple of weeks to prepare, whether its mentally or physically (rest up)? Big Green came out on fire dictating play and scoring on a PP (see what happens when you put pucks on net) with Jasiek being the benefactor of the nice bounce. While controlling play throughout the first, a Vermont player comes in 1 on at least 3 maybe 4 and puts a harmless wrister just inside the blueline that beats Clark. That one play changed the entire complexion of the game as now Vermont carried the play for the rest of the game into OT and the GW goal. BTW Clark was outstanding save for that goal. When I stated at the beginning of the season, who will replace Crema and his offensive output...thus far no one and not even collectively. This team is challenged to score goals. Move forward and move south to Q and P for next week's road games.
