Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check
Some thoughts, I'll probably blog tomorrow since I also have to do the preview for Tuesday's women's game (it's their home opener btw)...
-I'm okay with playing Thomas; better to breed him into the team early. But Evers should not have been the guy to see the press box. I would've gone Moriarty, personally. But that's just my $.02
-I'm also not a fan of the Alvaro-Misley-Petruzzelli line. Misley is a skilled playmaker. Alvaro and Rico are mostly grinders. I feel like if you flipped Misley onto the line with Puffer and Cowans (skill guys) and Coughlin onto the line with Alvaro and Rico, you probably get a bit more out of that second line.
-Gotta cut down on the PIMs.
-Colton is going to be a force this year. Sleeper Hockey East All-Star?
-The team didn't look like they wanted it until the third period. That's unacceptable.
-Lekkas with a weekend of the Jekyll and Hyde he was last year. Last night was the brilliant, tonight was the not-so-much. He REALLY needs to work on overcommitting because it's becoming a problem.
-Lousiest student section I've seen at a non-break weekend game. Seriously.
Fair play to CC though, they fully deserved the W. Hope they can grab some Ws so that it doesn't tank our PairWise later. They did beat three tournament teams last season (Cornell, Duluth, and the Fighting Hawks).
Onto Union and Q next week.https://***********/TheVTHockeyBlog

Friday they managed to squeek out a win due to shoddy goaltending from CC and some stellar goaltending from Lekkas.
Saturday they may as well stayed in the locker room. Colton, Misley and Lekkas looked good. The rest looked like they should have been playing for the club team. They maybe able to play Canadian college teams with that amount of effort but it isn't going to win them many games in their own league. Hope they get in some cardio training this week so we don't have a bunch of slugs out on the ice again next week.
I would love to see Lenes or McCarthy on the ice with some of these guys... either one would literally skate circles around over half of them... Sneddon called a lack of compete... I'll be more blunt... it's a lack of effort. They were outworked by a weak CC team. Totally unacceptable.Originally posted by HokydadMaine will be better this year relative to rankings than BC will be this year

Shoutout to UVM alumnus Tim Fingerhut, who's being inducted into the New Jersey Hockey Hall of Fame in February (well, the team he coached - the 2006-07 St. Augustine's Prep Hermits, who put together the first undefeated/untied record in the history of New Jersey high school hockey at 23-0-0):

Injury news in the latest Ted Ryan piece:
-Dzhioshvili underwent surgery for a lower body injury, will be out for several weeks
-Evers is day-to-day (which probably explains his absence Saturday)https://***********/TheVTHockeyBlog

Saw him at the game on Saturday with the top of his crutches padded with ace bandages.
