Sweep. Anything less will be a disappointment. Come out hard and keep your foot on the gas until the end... of the season.

    Good win tonight.

I feel like CC kinda beat themselves though. Bad penalties, inability to execute.

All three UVM freshmen that played got at least a point, so that's a thing.

EEK. We looked disjointed and sluggish tonight. Steph, Colton, Evers the exceptions. Misley will be dominant once he adapts to the college game. We need Bowen and the Russian Rocket ASAP.

Heard in the stands that Russian Rocket's grounded til Christmas with a broken foot. Not sure if true but I did see a suit walking out of Gutterson with a boot and crutches.

It's early season rust, tbh. And I think it's welcome that we can win an ugly game and come away with a shutout.

Also thought Grant played a very good game.

I'm less excited about the season after watching that game. A Bowen injection may boost spirits.

I didn't see any of the game, but understand the Cats were outskated for portions of it. A 3-0 win though, I'll take it. If anything, it makes me a little more excited for our prospects this season. These are games you need to win, and great goaltending and timely scoring is a good recipe for that. How many times during the past few seasons have we been on the other end -- where we've outplayed a team only to come away with the loss? More times than I care to remember. This feels much better. It's obviously extremely early in the season and hopefully the team can play more like they're capable of tonight. But the bottom line is, good win Cats!

Regarding our Russian comrade, that's a bummer if the rumors are true, but we have the depth to absorb it. Getting Bowen back is much more important though and it'll be nice to have him on the ice tonight.

Sneddon said postgame some of the new guys will rotate in tonight.

And yeah we were outskated, especially in the first. We had a five minute penalty that we killed (with some help, they took a penalty during the major) and that kinda gave us the momentum

Regarding Bowen, agreed. I'd like to see him on the Misley line... should be dynamic. Tonight's prediction: 5-2 Cats

I agree to try Bowen on that Misley line.
Alastair or someone in booth mentioned keeping the top line together and they will become dominant.
Love that PK though Stef bailed them out a bunch.
Cant take those after the whistle penalties either, unless standing up for a teammate.

    Hoping for the sweep!

Just noticed the Holy Cross banner replaced Notre Dame. Reminded me there are only 11 teams in Hockey East this year. I wonder how the playoffs will work.

Sneddon is not a good coach. Where is Evers? This season can’t all be Colton.

Re: UVM 2017/18: A Gutt Check

Some thoughts, I'll probably blog tomorrow since I also have to do the preview for Tuesday's women's game (it's their home opener btw)...

-I'm okay with playing Thomas; better to breed him into the team early. But Evers should not have been the guy to see the press box. I would've gone Moriarty, personally. But that's just my $.02

-I'm also not a fan of the Alvaro-Misley-Petruzzelli line. Misley is a skilled playmaker. Alvaro and Rico are mostly grinders. I feel like if you flipped Misley onto the line with Puffer and Cowans (skill guys) and Coughlin onto the line with Alvaro and Rico, you probably get a bit more out of that second line.

-Gotta cut down on the PIMs.

-Colton is going to be a force this year. Sleeper Hockey East All-Star?

-The team didn't look like they wanted it until the third period. That's unacceptable.

-Lekkas with a weekend of the Jekyll and Hyde he was last year. Last night was the brilliant, tonight was the not-so-much. He REALLY needs to work on overcommitting because it's becoming a problem.

-Lousiest student section I've seen at a non-break weekend game. Seriously.

Fair play to CC though, they fully deserved the W. Hope they can grab some Ws so that it doesn't tank our PairWise later. They did beat three tournament teams last season (Cornell, Duluth, and the Fighting Hawks).

Onto Union and Q next week.

Evers was a healthy scratch? We NEED a new head coach. No joke.

I'm not sure, I wasn't covering the game tonight so I didn't go to postgame. If he wasn't....well, fair enough. If he was, that's a really silly move.

Does anyone else have the distinct and familiar feeling that we ar echo I full of talent this year...but with a head coach who almost seems to want to cut down that talent? It’s really odd. If Evers sat while health, fire Sneddon. Immediately.

Ok just ratcheted down the expectations a notch. Pretty lack luster both nights. The video feed was even way below what it has been in the past.......

Evers has decided to leave UVM and be “closer to family”. Kidding. But what the actual hell.

    Well that was pathetic.

Friday they managed to squeek out a win due to shoddy goaltending from CC and some stellar goaltending from Lekkas.

Saturday they may as well stayed in the locker room. Colton, Misley and Lekkas looked good. The rest looked like they should have been playing for the club team. They maybe able to play Canadian college teams with that amount of effort but it isn't going to win them many games in their own league. Hope they get in some cardio training this week so we don't have a bunch of slugs out on the ice again next week.

I would love to see Lenes or McCarthy on the ice with some of these guys... either one would literally skate circles around over half of them... Sneddon called a lack of compete... I'll be more blunt... it's a lack of effort. They were outworked by a weak CC team. Totally unacceptable.

Colton 1st in country in goals, Lekkas 1st in shutouts,
Bowen 1st in assists/game. There, now I feel better!
