Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2017-2018 ... Home Playoffs This Season?

Ohio State took game one in this weekend's series vs Minnesota State by a final score of 2-1. Ohio State controlled the puck for a good chunk of this game and outshot the Mavericks 42-13, but give a lot of credit to Minnesota State backstop Katie Bidulka, who stood on her head tonight, stopping 40 of the 42 Buckeye shots. The Mavericks drew first blood tonight with a first period goal from Brittyn Fleming, but that was all the Mavericks would get against Ohio State goaltender Amanda Zeglen, who filled in admirably for an injured Kassidy Sauve. Hopefully we will get Kassidy back soon, but she will not play this weekend. Zeglen stopped 12 of the 13 shots she faced tonight. Lauren Spring got the equalizer for the Buckeyes in the second period, then Maddy Field got the game-winner in the third. The teams are back at it tomorrow at 2:07 pm.

Hey - What are you doing on USCHO? You should be on your way to the Ice Rink for today's game!

But as long as you're still here, check out the 3 Stars for the Friday before hitting the road. As usual, they can be found on the WCHA thread.

The Buckeyes finished the sweep today against a determined Minnesota State team by a final score of 5-3. The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Then, just eight seconds into the second period, the Mavericks added another goal to go up 2-0. To Ohio State's credit, they did not flinch, storming back to eventually tie it at 3-3 by the end of the second period. The Buckeyes came out and scored two goals in the third period to win it. The Buckeyes get all six points and move back into second place in the WCHA standings at 7-2-1 and 23 points. Looking at the box score, the shots on goal numbers today were closer with the Buckeyes outshooting the Mavericks 27-21. OSU goaltender Amanda Zeglen stopped 18 of the 21 shots she faced while her counterpart for Minnesota State, Chloe Crosby, saved 22 of the 27 shots she faced. The Maverick goals were scored by Jordan McLaughlin, Jordan Jackson, and Brittyn Fleming. The Ohio State goals were scored by Rebecca Freiburger, Lauren Boyle (2), Tatum Skaggs, and Emma Maltais. Ohio State will travel to Bemidji State for a tough series with the Beavers. Minnesota State will travel to Duluth to take on the UMD Bulldogs.

Why the Maverick's did not play Bidulka on Saturday is a mystery. Only an injury could explain it. She was awesome on Friday and had she played Saturday, the result may have been very different.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the change in goalie the way Bidulka played on Friday. Then again, us Ohio State fans could play the "what if" game regarding goaltenders, too, with our All-American out with an injury.

It's a good question. Going into Saturday's game, Crosby had 4 previous decisions to Bidulka's 8. So while Bidulka isn't playing game in and game out, it's not exactly an even rotation either.

Not sure if she is going to be back this weekend vs Bemidji, but hopefully we will have her back for the series at Robert Morris over Thanksgiving Weekend.

Ohio State and Bemidji State skated to a 3-3 tie, but Bemidji picked up the extra point in the shootout, which went six rounds before the Beavers' Lydia Passolt beat Buckeye goaltender Kassidy Sauve for the shootout winner. The Buckeyes outshot Bemidji 43-30 with Kassidy Sauve stopping 27 of those 30 shots. Bemidji goaltender Erin Deters stopped 40 of the 43 shots she faced to help the Beavers pick up two points in this one. Bemidji's goals were scored by Paige Beebe, Sylvia Marolt, and Haley Mack. The Buckeye goals were scored by Tatum Skaggs, Liz Schepers, and Julianna Iafallo. The two teams are back at it tomorrow.

The Buckeyes rebounded with a 5-4 win earlier today to take four of the six points at Bemidji this weekend. Shots on goal favored Ohio State with the Buckeyes outshooting the Beavers 34-25. Buckeye netminder Kassidy Sauve stopped 21 of the 25 shots she faced. Bemidji goaltender Erin Deters earned 19 saves on 24 shots through two periods, then was pulled at the second intermission. Lauren Bench stopped all 10 of the shots she faced in the third period. The Beaver goals were scored by Clair DeGeorge, Mak Langei, Sylvia Marolt, and Emma Terres. Ohio State's goals were scored by Emma Maltais, Grace Zarzecki, Maddy Field, Julianna Iafallo, and McKenna Wesloh. The Buckeyes travel to Pittsburgh next weekend for a big non-league series with 9th-ranked Robert Morris. Bemidji State will travel to St. Cloud State for a single game Wednesday, which, if I am reading correctly on the WCHA website, will be a "non-league" game in this case.

Correct. It's replacing a game against North Dakota on each team's schedule.

That makes perfect sense. I am sure every team in the WCHA had to come up with some extra games to make up for the four they would have played against UND.

It is quite obvious that she is still not healthy.
