              My Auntie's Church called an openly gay and partnered Pastor who then moved to the one of the largest congregations in the state. Pretty sure most of the biggest Lutheran churches in the state are Reconciling Churches (Reconciling in Christ Congregation, meaning that we welcome all regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other possible exclusionary distinction. We worship in the evangelical catholic tradition of the Lutheran Mass...). Most of them have outreach programs and work actively/publicly to let people know what they believe.
              Sounds familiar. The Lutheran church I grew up in was very liberal. The biggest difference between the two that I can see is the best-bet answer kids give when asked a question they didn't know the answer to. For the Lutherans, it was "Jesus Christ." For my Free Thinker/UU congregation, it's "Thomas Paine."

                It's hard, but I am distancing myself from jerks.

                In Holland, MI, I am volunteering at Out On the Lakeshore Community Center. There is also a trans support group and PFLAG. I am involved with all three.

                In terms of churches down here, the Episcopalians said I was welcome. If I were believing, I'd go there. The Rector is a lesbian, and she's assured me no one would judge.

                And the owner of a makeup studio in Grand Rapids... I went in for foundation and eyeliner on Wednesday. She looked at my chart, disagreed, and sat me down and tried various foundation on me until we found something that worked. She treated me like I was her daughter.

                Another friend gave me a gift card to Bath and Body Works.
