"Interesting. So when will right-wing Christians acknowledge that the "moderate majority" of Muslims do the same with their radicals, and allow them to be held to that equal standard, then?"

Why don't white supremacists do the same with racial matters? Because the right wing is the right wing first and foremost. Don't think the existence of race, religion, nation states is to blame for bad extremist perspective and behavior.

How do progressively-minded Christians reconcile the socially conservative parts of the Bible (marry your brother's widow, stone the adulterers, gays are an abomination), with 21st century society and politics? If you subscribe to all of the lovey-dovey/hopey-changey "social justice" ideas in a sacred tome whose writings were inspired by your deity, then surely you don't get to just ignore that other stuff merely because you disagree with it, or because "times change". If God really has changed his mind, then why hasn't He sent us a prophet with an update? Or did He, and it turned out to be even more conservative, nakedly racist, and just plain awkward than either of the first two testaments combined?

Although divinely inspired, the Old Testament was written via human interpretation. Jesus is God and set the record straight. Jesus created a new covenant - done. Top priority is to treat your neighbors well and believe in God...and God is love.

Jesus says He "fulfilled the old law" and did so by interpreting it. But he clearly repositioned to emphasize that good behavior is my responsibility (or yours if your a Christian) - and not one for a Christian to apply to others. See "don't throw stones" passage.

          1. The USA is mentioned in the Bible.
          2. Obama is the Antichrist.
          3. Hurricane Harvey and the solar eclipse mean the end is near.. if not here already.

The new testament wasn't written via human interpretation?

Jesus wrote parts of the New Testament close to 100 years after being nailed to the crucifix. Fact.

                        I'll say.

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins urged conservative Christian listeners of his radio program on Wednesday to run for positions on their local public school boards to combat gender identity education programs because those programs make it harder for children to be taught the gospel.

On the August 23 episode of Family Research Council’s “Washington Watch” radio program, Perkins shared a report about parents who complained to a school board in California that a discussion about gender identity in a kindergarten classroom had left their children “confused.” According to Perkins, the lesson was part of a larger plot to prevent churches from reaching children with their message.

“They’re going after your children with these agendas because they know if they can change the hearts and minds of these kids and confuse them as young as five years old—folks, they’ve cut you off at the pass,” Perkins told listeners. “They’re trying to create greater confusion in the minds of these kids. It’s going to make it difficult even to reach them with the gospel.”
It's all been downhill since kids started learning about racial equality in schools. Why, it's now almost impossible to teach that slavery is a Biblically-endorsed doctrine unless you homeschool them!

The number of people turning away from the Bible has increased with each passing generation of children since literacy has become the norm.

Education and religiosity are inversely related. The US is a spectacular outlier because of other cultural factors (a.k.a., we have enormous swathes that haven't made it to the 18th century yet).
