Um, no. As First Lady, her job is definitely to work with her staff to run the White House social calendar. It may not be a paid job, but it's a job with a lot of precedent.

As for championing various causes, yes that is going above and beyond the requirements of being POTUS' wife and chief White House hostess. However, precedent that dates back to Eleanor Roosevelt now basically expects such activities from the First Lady, and thus far, Melania's talk about an "anti-bullying" campaign has pretty much died on the vine.

This would be a difference of opinion. That's cool.

Guys. There is no such position, it's just a custom. Think about this: if we elected an unmarried president, how would this First Lady job you are alleging be filled? Take applications? By appointment?

The pro-Bannon/alt-Reich crowd really hates McMaster, BTW. He's continued to succeed in having Bannon loyalists removed from the NSC, and they're weakly trying to fire back.

Yeah, those poor, poor rich people. The top 10% have barely managed to scrape together 76% of the country's wealth. I don't know how they survive now that we socialists have taxed them to a state of penury.

Brent- you want to know what is really frustrating about this statement?

You and many others say that the two party system doesn't work, right? So we need more parties.

But for them to form, they NEED VOTES. If they get above a threshold, they get to be a real party.

So by not voting, you undercut your core desire of more than two parties. Good job.

BTW, this is directed at Brent AND everyone who wants more parties but decided not to vote. Duh.

Do you even understand what you're saying here? There are countries that are ruled by dictators and thugs like Putin. Let me play the world's tiniest violin for those who don't want to vote but must.

Exercising a right is not lame. Abdicating a responsibility is. We have a responsibility to make sure the best (or least bad) option is in any elected office. Dog catcher or president, the same responsibility. Either Clinton or trump was gonna be elected last November. That your vote in Minnesota didn't "matter" is a large part of the reason we have lousy candidates. Sure, Hillary won the popular vote there and even a vote by you for trump would not have changed that. But it isn't just you. It's people like you all over Minnesota, and in the other 49 states. We need fewer people in all 50 states who don't see things the way you do. If an apartment's balcony can safely hold 50 people and you are the 40th one who stood on it and it collapses when the 51st person steps there and you knew it had a limit of 50 and a 51st person was getting ready to step on, are you not part of the problem? There's only one right answer here and it is yes. You either need to get off, or prevent the other person from getting on. If someone else got off before you (Minnesota) and the balcony did not collapse, you still did not do your part. That you happen to live in Minnesota is immaterial. You would have done the same thing in Michigan, Wisconsin or PA. With your attitude then I guess unless a candidate wins or loses by one vote your abdication of your responsibility doesn't matter? That's sad and an insult to every person throughout the world who fought or died for the right to vote. Sure you exercised your rights, congratulations, but you exercising your rights hurts other people. You sound like a smoker who complains about other people complaining about second-hand smoke.

No vote is wasted. WeAreNDHockey put it nicely but I told lil in one sentence. With rights come responsibilities. The problem we have in this country right now is everyone wants their rights, they are entitled to them!!!11!! but no one remembers that they come with the cost of behaving responsibly, taking responsibility for their actions. Once we lose that part the system falls down because you have a bunch of people wanting stuff, saying they have the right to do what ever but if people don't partcipate the system fails.

See above. It is not required by law but I would contend it is not just a just a right to vote but a duty.

Technically that may be correct but traditionally the First Lady is a public figure. At the least they should attempt not to be a burden (living separately for months, costing us millions- those same millions that tDump whines about for social net programs). Having watched tDump for yrs and just fromt he little stuff I have seen recently I would bet a whole bunch this relationship is severely dysfunctional to begin with so I am torn as far as what I want to happen. On the one hand I am pretty sure he is abusive so any time she is separated from him is better for her. On the other hand where does taking one for the team to achieve the greater good come in. Anyone that can stay married to a narcissistic scum like him either has to be thoroughly beaten down or themself a sociopath.

I disgree with this. I don't want him to live with it. That meansyou are encouraging his passivity and for it to persist. I would rather he get engaged, look at what happened the last time and get involved enough now that next time he does vote. Telling people to get off my lawn is satisfying but not productive.

Oh, I'm all for him getting off his azz and trying to make a difference. But until he starts, by doing the easiest and simplest thing to attempt that, voting, he has no right to complain about how lousy the system is.

The system is lousy because of people like him.
