I'm not talking about the talent pool, I'm talking about building a nation wide infrastructure for developing that talent pool. $100M is not nearly enough money to do that.

mookie is going to hit up a game when he is in london after christmas. any of the premier games are going to be a hassle, so he is looking to adopt milton keyes!! they have a home fixture on the 30th which looks like a winner.

that has to be a better watch than minnesota united or whatnot

just watched a kpl game between tadhamon and jahra. 2-2

minnesota united has to be a better watch than that was.

Ignoring the fact that 100M is again, just the surplus, how much infrastructure do you really need for futsal? Look at the dirt poor countries with good teams where people are just playing in the street and stuff and then compare that to the number of resources (and $$$) we have at our disposal. I don't think we need to go full Scooby about the potential for the USMNT if things actually change.

Also to Jim, what exactly is the big differences between NCAA soccer and FIFA? Like I can't imagine the laws of the game by themselves are so diametrically different that it's causing a massive difference in how the game is played right? Unless the field sizes are massively different (ie smaller) than FIFA?

Is it more how the game is officiated where they allow far more physicality or something?

The problem is that building a few futsal fields doesn't do this:

                      1. Kill the fiefdoms that litter US Soccer and centralize control. I'll give you a breakdown of organizations that are part of the USSF: AYSO, US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer, MLS, NASL, USL, NWSL, NPSL, US Adult Soccer and that's not even counting the divisions at the State level with separate boards for Youth and Adult. Oh and don't forget the non-members like the NFHS and NCAA and their resultant fiefdoms at the Regional and National levels. You really want to fix **** in US Soccer? Have the USSF take an axe to all that, set up singular boards at the State level, and force people to work together.

                      2. Use USSF money to subsidize the costs of the State level. This means reducing the amount of money folks have to spend on soccer. Sure, that Nike money could spent on the USWNT salaries of guaranteed roster spot players or it could be spent reducing costs for parents of players.

                      3. Drop the hammer on college soccer. It's time for college soccer to get in line, either start playing by FIFA rules and extend the season be declared an outlaw league and deal with consequences.

                      4. Allow clubs to collect solidarity payments but only if they charged less than a certain amount of money.
All I'm saying, is that blowing it all up and starting from scratch, including a system that makes it CHEAP for parents is completely out of the budget.

Here's a PDF with the differences explain along with HS rules.

The main difference is the sub rules, unlimited numbers plus reentry demphasizes fitness and technical ability over speed and athleticism. The other is the countdown clock which just sucks.

The big things though are administrative. The season is only around three months long and the players are limited on the amount of training per week. Where a 18-21 year professional would be training 5-6 days a week for 4-6 hours a day with one game a week 11 months a year, a college player may have 2-3 games per week and 2-3 days of training 4 months a year.

And if you think USSF has an "Old Boys Network" problem (and they do), they have nothing on college soccer. There's no real oversight of things like refereeing, if a referee makes a questionable looking call against a team that PO's a coach, that coach calls the assignor and that referee doesn't work again.

Add those all together and you get a game that's a mix between a track meet and a wrestling match. Its ugly and it does nothing to further a players ability.

                            Average rating faced by:

                            USA: 49 (high 19, low 98)

                            Chile: 18 (high 2, low 40)

Holland was in a group with France and Sweden, and had to finish #1 (automatic) or #2 (playoff). Chile was in a murderers row of teams and had to finish top four out of 10 (automatic) or #5 (playoff). The USA had to finish in the top 3 of a six team group - or finish fourth for a playoff.

It's easily the worst performance by USA soccer ever.

Ok thanks, that makes a lot more sense now.

Also someone posted this on GPL and it's a great article about youth soccer and the skill/talent difference between the inner city kids and those in the suburbs in the pay to play system, and how the system fails at identifying the more skilled players of the inner cities: https://www.theguardian.com/football...world-football
