I think we may have covered this but how the hell did the Azzurri get stuck in a playoff?

Group winners advance, 2nd place to playoffs. Spain won the group.

Not in UEFA, 1st qualifies and 2nd goes to the playoffs. Inevitably one name country will be in the playoffs and another won’t qualify at all.

Granted, UEFA groups are 1 really great team, 1 really good team, 1 team with a shot, and a bunch of also rans.

And UEFA’s highly centralized organization prevents a lot of shenanigans like in other parts of the world.

Watching US-Canada Women’s game and ESPN had an interesting halftime segment with Julie Foudy talking about a lot of up and coming countries in the Women’s game versus a struggling US team.

Key point was talking about the struggles of Women’s U20 and U17 teams at World Cups, with the U17 team failing to qualify twice.

I don’t normally like Foudy but her point of “If you thought the Men were in bad shape, the Women’s team could be facing a similar disappointment.” Very similar to something I’ve told folks.

Seems Northern Ireland took it in the shorts.

                        Africa has two spots left:
Morocco and the Ivory Coast play tomorrow (Saturday). Winner goes on, a draw means Morocco is in.
Tunisia and DR Congo do not play, but depending on results could change. Looks like Tunisia is in.

                        UEFA:
Sweden 1-0 over Italy, play again Monday
Switzerland 1-0 over NI, play again Sunday
Croatia 4-1 over Greece, play again Sunday
Ireland and Denmark play Saturday and Tuesday

                        Playoffs:
Both match-ups ended in scoreless draws and will have the second leg Wednesday
                        Honduras-Australia will meet in Sydney
New Zealand-Peru will meet in Lima
Literal must wins for the home squads, a draw puts Honduras and the Kiwis through to Russia.
Go Green! Go White! Go State!

I wouldn’t put Sweden through yet after a 1-0 home win.

TV for the Denmark/Ireland game: Denmark vs. Ireland (1st leg), 2:45pm, FOX Sports 2, FOX Deportes, DIRECTV NOW, Sling Blue and fubo Premier (7-day free trial).

Xfinity doesn't carry the first 2, don't have Direct, not paying for Sling Blue. I guess check out fubo Premier after the NCSt/BC game. 7 day trial will cover the 2 matches.

If you have good internet you could stream it from abroad. I use Chromecast to beam the signal from my PC to my big screen TV.
