Good god. You're right though, I'm not usually a fan of the whole "one bad apple ruins it for everyone" policies but when the police unions keep defending the bad apples that's kinda all you're left with in terms of options.

Here is the thing...they KNOW they are being recorded and yet they do it anyways. How dumb are they?

Scarier question...if this is what they do when they are recorded imagine the crap they pull when no one is watching.

This is no longer just "a few bad apples" this is a flawed system that is starting to really show its cracks under the light of day.

I'm not convinced recordings would help, except in cases where the accused is white. Many areas of the country still have this mentality that a black guy is "guilty until proven innocent".

It's a combination. 1. They've always been like this, they're just getting caught now. 2. It's more than a few bad apples. 3. Culture of entitlement. They think they have to do this to do their job. 4. Lots of authoritarian personalities on the thin blue line. 5. Learned behavior from a culture where the cops are the Praetorian guard of the rich and everybody else is either the enemy or witless.

The cops on Live PD are freaking saints compared to the jagoffs that end up in this thread. They actually give cops a good name for the most part, but **** if this thread doesn't make it hard to not really dislike them all.

Well, they're on camera and being broadcast to America. Of course they're saints. I would be too.

Knowing what I know of how Lake County IL rolls, they're (sadly) putting on a show for the Live PD cameras. One of their first nights they had a B&E. They arrive with their SWAT gear and a dog and go charging through the front door, then stand in the living room waiting for the cameras to turn off. One lone officer casually strolls in the dark around to the back of the home as if it's his house. They come back from break and the officer shows "the open window the suspect could have used."

Another night they had a similar staged setup. The locals called them out on it on Twitter.

A few good guys with a Taser

Which begs the question, just how long will a Taser's batteries last?

Agreed but that remark was in context to a previous comment that noted plenty of cops that are on camera still act like morons. I realize it's not the same as being on A&E but you'd think having anything they do being recorded ever would calm the beast more often than it does.

Ya know I rarely wish harm on anyone but those cops should get tazed 30-40 times while restrained see if that teaches them.

I bet our nimrod president is proud though...

At least these cops aren't shooting any unarmed citizens...

"Sheriff Joe" and this guy are two more examples that illustrate how we have given cops in this country far too much rope. If we routinely held them accountable for their misdeeds -- nothing more, just held them accountable -- stories like these would become few and far between. But nowadays the default application is to anoint every cop a here merely for wearing a badge when the truth has been proven somewhere on a daily basis that this is misguided at best and tragic at worst. Of all the institutions in this country that need to get their houses in order, law enforcement is at the top of the list.

Prayers for the family of Houston Police Officer Steve Perez, who drowned in his patrol car. The 34-year veteran was days short of his 61st birthday.

End of watch Officer Perez, rest easy.
