Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

Random thoughts heading into the weekend....

I'm with Chuck. I think UNH gets points this weekend. So early in the season these might as well be called exhibition games.

So Grasso is going to miss at least a couple games. Does that mean instead of being a minus 15 for the season he will only end up minus a dozen?

Hypothetical question: We all know the current head coach thinks quite highly of Danny Tirone. (Some on here might refer to it as a unhealthy obsession. But that is another topic for another day.) Anyhow suppose Tirone went down with a serious injury early in the season and ended up red shirting? Would the coach stay on for another year so they could walk off in the sunset together? Just wonderin....

Especially at Tsongas, where the punches come fast and hard.

Since the season officially starts tonight for the 'Cats, perhaps it's time to generate a regular season thread...

Bad penalty by The Riverhawks to negate a UML PP - UNH scored on both the 4-on-4 and the ensuing PP. Now headed on their fourth PP of the night...

    Wow, what a finish...

UML ties it, Eiserman scores a go ahead with 13 seconds remaining. 4-3, UNH wins...

And suddenly 600 seems so close!

If you were to pick the three forwards most critical to UNH's success on 2017-18 - I'd argue all three scored goals tonight. Vela with two points, including a game-winning assist to off-set his late penalty.

Edit: Vela's assist now credited to Gildon.

Haha I know right?!? Lots of good stuff out there for an opening night. Scoring 3 even strength goals for one...actually completing break out passes consistently, hope it continues! Should be a slug fest at the 'Whitt Go 'Cats!

Re: UNH Wildcats-The Back Nine and Beyond!

For those who listened and did not watch the game, the biggest change I saw tonight is UNH players actively checking sticks/the puck in the neutral zone. I am so used to watching this team give the opposition the neutral zone and there was very little of that tonight. This type of play lead directly to Cefalu and Nazarian's two goals. Cefalu knocked a puck off a UML stick a mere two steps out of the box creating the turnover leading to his own goal. This team has the speed to make that type of play work so long as there are not a lot of penalties to go with it. In this game I do not believe any of their penalties were stick infractions in the neutral zone (I think they were all in the defensive zone).

So, at least there's something. On to Lake Whitt tomorrow night!

But, would be nice if he gets to the NRN, to stick it to all of us naysayers, and to maintain respect from his bud Jerwy.

As *huge* as an opening game win gets, considering the uncertainty, the opposition, the NRN, etc.

Coach says last night was down to the team's leadership. Tirone, Chanter ... Eiserman (GWG)?
