The Republicans are a hundred times worse.

I do agree that many Democratic politicians are complicit. Take a look at the homes in Alexandria and Georgetown and McLean. Those people aint Al Smith.

Could have sworn both Clinton and Obama raised taxes on the rich...

They did. Obama rolled back the Bush Tax Cuts (or at least some of them). They were unable to change the narrative enough though.

Then there is no reason to worry. The 1% will get their tax break for a couple of years, and if they die their kids will inherit all their wealth, and if they don't die then you guys can change it back and tax them as much as you'd like.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

              No. No. No. No.

Clinton and Obama were only able to pass incremental changes. The systemic changes made by Reagan are still there.

Court appointments have longer term damage. We blew a chance to have the first liberal court in 2 generations, and it'll be at least one more generation until that chance arrives again, because demographics say the liberal wing will be replaced sooner.

Yeah, Grassley and McConnell can go fark themselves for what they did to Garland, but the voters ratified those tactics by electing Trump, so that's still on the electorate.

It's the electorate's fault. Plain and simple. The GOP put it on the ballot and the Dems agreed to that and here we are. Emails were more important to Democrats than the Supreme Court. Square that in your mind. It's tough to do.

                    To some extent there isn't....

Might surprise some of the young 'uns out here, but if you were around in the 1980's Joe Sixpack making 15K a year would be arguing that we need to cut taxes on the rich, because that would trickle down to him. Does anybody truly believe that anymore? Of course not. Were Clinton or Obama punished for raising taxes on the wealthy? No, they weren't. What was once an untenable position (raising any taxes) isn't anymore. Debacles from George W Bush to Sam Brownback and Bobby Jindal just keep reinforcing that.

The ridiculous gimmick of this current tax proposal, where nobody with a straight face can make an argument that repealing the estate tax does anything for anybody except for the super rich for example, makes it ripe to be repealed in the name of the populism sweeping the country on both sides of the political spectrum. Much like the ACA debate got correctly framed as gutting healthcare for the poor to pay for a massive tax break for the rich, so too will this tax cut proposal. Dems from Sanders to Manchin can easily run on this. Maybe any cuts to those making say 250K and below for married couples remain, but outside of that there's zero appetite to cut taxes on the rich, and you're gifting a campaign issue to the Dems that even they will have trouble screwing up, much like the absurd Medicaid expansion repeal that the GOP proposed.

It's hilarious in a sad way, because the majority of attorneys are democrats. But the GOP rank and file always understand the importance of the courts more than the base Democrats.

                        From 35 to 39.

After Reagan changed rates from 50 to 30 and Kennedy from 90 to 50.

Clinton and Obama raked through the ashes after the fire. We need to rebuild the house.

Very true. The system doesn't work if the voters are lazy or inattentive. "A republic, if you can keep it."

America won't fall by invasion but by stupidity manipulated by media seeking profits.

Mr. Obama should visit these "evil" 1%er friends of his. They'd put a heck of a dent in the problem.

I don't know why you think this is some kind of a zinger. I'm fully on board with taxing the hell out of these people, too.

However, I really encourage you to put a liberal face on the 1%. That will get the Deplorables to think about taxing them. The rest of the left is up for it, it's the right keeping it from happening.
