Well, I don't think that would have happened. But, going with Peters the rest of the way might be a good idea. Goalies historically can have head problems.

Oh, and Muzerall for coach of the year!

This was not just the goaltending. After OSU's first goal, there was no effort off the ensuing face-off, and the Buckeyes scored 30 seconds later. The third OSU goal came after an inexplicable line change, where all three forwards skated to the bench as Ohio State was bringing the puck into their offensive zone; the goal wasn't scored immediately, but Minnesota never recovered during the ensuing sequence and was scrambling until the puck went in. That was followed by another total lack of effort on the ensuing faceoff, and it was 28 seconds before the Buckeyes scored their forth. The goaltending certainly wasn't good either game this weekend, but it also wasn't close to the biggest problem today.

I'll disagree with a lot of the sentiment about last night's game. That wasn't a lack of effort. The Gophers didn't play well for long stretches, especially the first ten minutes and much of the third period, but it wasn't a lack of effort. Ohio State played really well, and just beat us. It happens.

This afternoon was a completely different story. This was the same team that played last Friday night against Vermont. It's really concerning that they have shown so little fight twice in such a short time.

The only ones who looked worse than the Gophers were the linesmen. They were godawful bad. Twice today there were faceoffs at center ice after incorrect icing whistles, once when the puck came in on net and Peters saved it. Last night, during the Gopher power play at the end of the game, they were called for icing as Grace Zumwinkle was playing the puck, which had bounced back out beyond the faceoff dot. These were just the most inexplicable of a lot of very strange calls.

Not as wrong as being swept by a hockey team from Ohio. Next you're going to tell me OSU has better recruits and facilities.

Are the Gophers missing numerous key players or something? Olympics? Injuries?

To take your post somewhat seriously, I was more surprised by the Gopher men's hockey team getting swept in Columbus than I was the women's team. The Ohio women have a very good coach, a very good goalie and just a very nice team. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they take at least one from Wisconsin at home either, maybe two, two weeks from now. They certainly have some payback incentive from the games in Madison.

It's been a long time since the Gophers finished as low as 3rd in conference play. 2007 to be exact.

In a day and age when the same 3 teams don't win every single NCAA title in women's hockey anymore, and when on the men's side OVER half of the Frozen Four teams over the last 10 years are NON-blue blood programs, losing to a hockey team from Ohio is not all that strange.

Isn't Bowling Green an Ohio team? BG & Miami of Ohio are both among the Top 20 ranked teams in mens hockey this year, and OSU was #5 in the country in last weeks polls and rankings.

On the women's side, they were ranked just one spot behind the Gophers, right?

The bad news for me is yesterday did feel like a new low. Although not because the opponent was from Ohio.

Gophers have 3 players that are missing the season for the Olympics (1 USA, 2 Canada).

Our players care a lot and do not want to be the team that doesn't meet GWH standards. Seems what the players, captains and coaches have been trying hasn't worked so far. Is there any chance they can build up some confidence and finish the season strong?

Gopher fans are not truly concerned, the way we might be if Brad Frost died or something, right?

I hate to say, but losing to OSU was not devasting, if we play up to our potential from here on out, we can make the tourney, and whose to say we can't surprise someone and do to others what they did to us in the past? Will we take that all the way to a Title? Well, that would truly be one of the biggest miracles of recent times. But it wouldn't be as surprising as X or Y.

in addition, while opposing teams picked up good players from the Fighting Flickertails, Gophers didn't get any
fair to say OSU & WIsco benefitted from UND dropping hockey

When you watch Minnesota players that are top performers on the OSU team like Sadek, Boyle, Schepers, Freiburger and Dahlquist, it makes you wonder how these players are not on the Gophers roster or were they simply late bloomers that were overlooked. All are excellent players.

With Reilly transferring from Penn State, Schammel transferring from Mankato and Pieper transferring from Merrimack, they have accounted for 51 of the Gopher points with Reilly and Schammel being to of their top offensive players.

Kinda makes you wonder who is benefiting from transfers?

Schammel, Reilly, Pieper all Minnesota players that you could say the same about, only difference is they are now Gophers.
When you consider that Sadek's Dad and Grandfather played QB for the Gophers and her brother plays on the Men's Hockey team. I think that one got away from Frost. That said she broke her leg HS sophmore year, so that may have some bearing.
The one thing all these players have in common is that they never wore a U18 USA hockey jersey. That seems to be a prerequisit for Frost and MJ with their scholarship players.
