More likely they never had any intention to repeal it. Their poutrage was just red meat for the suckers. It's a capitalist solution that keeps the donor class fat and happy and it headed off a better socialist solution, just like Heritage designed it to do. Why would they want it gone? All the bluster was just their dog whistle "we hate that n-gger, too!" to their charming voters. It was always completely disingenuous.

OR. The Senators with a brain (most of them) went home and their Constituents screamed at them that they want Obamacare gone but keep the Affordable Care Act. Cause that's how stupid of an electorate we have. Then they got cold feet. Hell, Cassidy is taking it in the shorts right now from Jimmy Kimmel.

that was just talk to rile you righties up and get you frothing at the mouth so you'd show up at the voting booth. They didn't give a **** about healthcare. Now they are the dog that caught the car and they don't know what the **** to do.

I think this is more correct. Goopers assumed people really wanted to get rid of healthcare to pay for tax cuts for the rich, because the millionaire donors and lobbyists they spend 99.9% of their time with want that. A straight repeal bill would have been pretty easy to do if not for the blowback from their constituents and horrific poll #'s for an issue that was getting a lot of coverage. Once the issue was quickly framed as nothing as part 1 of a massive tax giveaway, (part 2 being the so-called "reform" we're hearing about now) it was the beginning of the end. Some knuck' in the house said it best, which was McCain took that decisive vote for a handful of his colleagues who also didn't want the bill passed but feared a primary. Meaning, I'm not sure the final vote was ever as close as it appeared by the time the thing was mercifully buried.

I dunno, I think Mitch believed he had it when McCain made his vote. I was watching that live (by accident the gf and I stumbled upon it as we were going to bed and needed something to watch) and Mitch went from Shiny Happy to Angry Turtle when that thumbs down came.

I think he wanted it dead, but I think it was for different reasons than what is hypothesized...he wanted Trump to sign it and Trump to be buried by it.

Congress just allowed the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which provided low-cost health insurance to 9 million children, to expire.

If action is not taken soon to restore the funding, the effects will become obvious in schools across the country, with many of the children in the program unable to see a doctor for routine checkups, immunizations, visits when sick and other services.

The program, created under a 1997 law passed with bipartisan support during the administration of President Bill Clinton, provided coverage for children in families with low and moderate incomes as well as to pregnant women. It was instrumental in lowering the percentage of children who were uninsured from nearly 14 percent when it started to 4.5 percent in 2015. It was last reauthorized in 2015 and was due to be renewed by Sept. 30, 2017.

Amid unsuccessful efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, the Republican-led Congress allowed the CHIP deadline to pass without action.
                        Yeah, **** Congress.

Technically, they have somewhere between the end of the year and March 2018, depending on the states to reauthorize it.

Or the states could actually take charge of it, instead of this inefficient national stuff. That's the whole point, but not surprising that the Washington [com]Post would spin it to make brainwashed morons think it's not possible without a huge oppressive central government.
