I think it could begin with limiting when a player may first be contacted. However, the competition for players with Major Junior causes problems since they are Major Junior drafted when they are 15. You also never hear about verbals from a team, only the player, his junior team or junior coach. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers.

Sure. And sadly, that leaves us with battling the OHL/WHL, which we have no control over. Blah.

IMO, the first step would be for the NCAA would be to allow undrafted, uncompensated players to maintain their eligibility through their 17yr old season. Those players would need to adhere to USHL standards and would lose or have NCAA eligibility decreased if they violate those standards. But again, enforcement would be difficult.

Are the incoming Freshmen on campus? Off ice training with Tyler yet?

Is there any word on when we'll get another Joe Shawhan Show? Maybe Dirk could round up both the new Assistant Coaches for a little get to know ya time...

Michigan Tech is short 1 goalie with Angus' departure, and Packy Munson is now looking for a school...someone please play matchmaker. Anyone with connections to Joe Shawhan should ask him to take a look at this guy. His numbers from Vermont don't look too shabby.

Don't you think they may already be aware of his skills & status?

Normally yes, but what with vacations and the new coaches not really coming in for another two or three weeks and all, it would not be surprising to hear they were not.

I'm pretty sure getting another goalie is on their minds even if they won't be in Houghton for 2-3 weeks.

Chances are they've had note on him since before his NAHL days.

A college hockey coach is never truly on vacation. They are always in the loop.

I suppose it is possible that Tech is going after this guy. However, if I remember right Coach Shawhan mentioned during the last radio show that we had a third goalie lined up, just waiting for all the NCAA paperwork to get approved. The second thing that comes to mind is that Tech supposedly doesn't have any scholarships to give out. That being the whole reason we had to ditch a couple of kids who had already signed NLIs.. The third goalie was going to have to be a walk on pay his own way type. SO, if we get this kid is he paying his own way? Or is there a scholarship earmarked for a goalie left and all that about no scholarship money and needing a walk on type a load of crap? Or has he suddenly been adopted by John Rockwell?

Just because the coaches might not be in Houghton doesn't mean they're on vacation. MTU tried to add two different goalies on transfer earlier this offseason and I'm positive they'll take a run at Packy. No idea if it will work out but most teams probably don't have much scholarship $$ left for 2017-18 either so MTU seems as likely as any school with the goaltender spot wide open.

Given the parting was mutual, I don't think the transfer out of DU is that difficult to explain. Jalliet is returning for his senior year, so Munson would have had to battle with the incoming freshman for the backup job.

The transfer out of Vermont, OTOH, with those numbers as a frosh, looks pretty odd. Disagreement with coaches? Off-ice issue? Couldn't get a spot at an NCHC school, so played at Vermont for a year to prove himself, and then asked to walk-on transfer to a western school that looked like it might have an opening? Tampering (hey, Montgomery did play for Maine )?

Question: Dylan Steman is not listed on the Tech hockey grid for 2018. With the redshirt, is he not also available for next year or did he only have 3 years of eligibility?
