I am by no means a Michigan fan, but they certainly had many years knocking on the door (FF) besides the two they won in 96 and 98.
Yup; those two teams were loaded with future NHL HOFers. Hard to believe, eh?

RPI has won two, but one was back in the 50s, so you are right to ask that question.

RPI and UMich peaked together in the 50s.

Notre Dame, OSU, Penn State are all just as bad. They certainly win the Ugly Helmet Conference title.

And when RPI won in 1954, they defeated Michigan in the semis keeping them from winning six in a row. Then they defeated another overrated and overconfident team in OT in the finals. (I forget whom. )

Although I was alive in 1954, I did not pay any attention to hockey at the time.

Great observations, Ralph. And Harkness being on the bench adds another interesting angle.

btw, FS23: Thanks to you and your team for doing this again.

He's mad because Coach Pearson left his podunk school in the middle of nowhere for the pristine university in Ann Arbor Michigan. Just like I told him long ago..

Was I happy when Marv Peterson took the job at Tech? Yes.

Was I happy with the program's turnaround when he was there? Yes

Was I disappointed when Marv left to go back to Skunktown? Yes

Was I happy with the hiring of Joe Shawhan to replace Marv? At the time I didn't know what to expect. Now I am very happy with Dr. Sanregret's choice.

Do I think the program is better poised to have success in the future with Joe instead of Marv? Yes

And finally, am I mad that Marv left? Absolutely not.

With PSU 24th ranked the past 5 years and OSU 15th it will be interesting to see if they will maintain the momentum and keep trending up the next few years.

Most of those wins and ties took place in the JAR - not much room to operate. Now that they have a real rink, they are off our schedule. Do the terriers dare to take the on in Waltham??
