Going to be some college coaches unhappy when they lose players to the Olympics.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Then, there other coaches who will have nothing to worry about.

Yeah I'm sure that would go over well, if a kid wants to go he should have the option to go. No point in training a year to get mopped up by the KHL stars.

As someone who supports Russia internationally, this is basically my dream scenario.

That would be a short conversation.

"Coach, I want go play in the Olympics."
"No, your commitment is to the school."
"I'm transferring, but don't worry I'll tell my friends back home you wanted to stop me from going after my dream."

                  That'd be awesome for recruiting.

It should be handled like the world juniors. None of this take a year off nonsense to train with Olympic team. Have a camp and select a team. How long are the olympics? How many college games would a player miss?

The Games are 9-25 February. So players would be missing the final month of the regular season.

So has there been any clarification if this only applies to rostered NHL players, or anyone with a contract? So could they draw from AHL players? If AHL'ers played, between them and European league players, there might not be that many college players who would play.

I'm assuming players on two-way contracts are out.

So... yeah, the US and Canada are boned.

At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

Would the AHL even go against the NHL on this issue? Would AHL teams want to disrupt their stretch drives by allowing their best players to leave for a month?

So the kid will play 5 games in the Olympics and then go to Sioux City for a year and a half. If that's what he wants for his development, that's his choice. If his friends a year. Whine him with no shot at an Olympics likes that along with his advisor so be it.
