Now there are a couple ways to meet Title 9 requirements, but if they are cutting women's hockey while keeping men's hockey - and I cannot imagine they'd be cutting men's hockey - they're gonna have big-time Title 9 problems on their hands. So I'm skeptical.

Looking at the size of the roster it would appear that also cutting men's Track & Field would solve the issue:

Or a combination of men's golf & tennis, etc.

But how much money do you save by cutting men's track (and CC) while keeping women's track (and CC)?

Wow, coming off the heels of the national women's team announcement...what a bitter twist of irony.

It does feel like "two steps forward, one step back" doesn't it...

I wonder if Lindenwood might be offered a spot in the WCHA.

    https://www.grandforksherald.com/spo...t-announcement

"Kennedy told the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee in October that UND was committed to keeping 12 sports—men's and women's hockey, men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, men's and women's cross-country, and volleyball."

And apparently they haven't even told the team yet. Real classy.

Would this be happening for the upcoming season or 2018-2019?

God I would sure hope it wouldn't be for next season, what would the girls on the team do? Can you even apply to transfer this late in the year?

Women's hockey team has been called to meet with AD Brian Faison at 2:45 p.m. Hearing that swimming staff also will be at the meeting.

"Disaster", as far as I'm concerned. Maybe it won't seem so bad in a little while. Right now I feel I'm in a coal mine looking at a dead canary.

I mean, I know this is a women's hockey forum -- but my God, this is just horrible news. I'm astounded that this is happening.

For those inclined, here is a web site (they changed the URL since the last time I went looking) where you can see some data (but not all you'd like) regarding budgets, participation numbers per sport and total, etc. for the athletic departments of colleges. So, for example, you can see how much UND spends on men's hockey vs women (but not how much revenue per sport, other than football and basketball), etc etc.

    https://ope.ed.gov/athletics/#/

Using the "12 sports" list from earlier, and then including women's hockey, I get that they are cutting sports that have 58 male participants and 125 female participants.

Either there is some other cut they haven't announced or we haven't heard, or they are going to get their asses handed to them in court. No way does that fly under Title 9.

I sure hope this proves to be just an isolated incident and not the start of a trend. I feel so sorry for the players...

To add insult to injury, North Dakota had one woman commit over the weekend (she tweeted it), and TODAY had a player land at 12:30 CDT at the airport for a recruiting visit to North Dakota, according to Brad Schlossman, whom I trust. You CANNOT make this crap up. North Dakota administration is a bunch of idiots

There will be so many players leaving that I doubt they would be able to field a competitive team.
