A Majority of the player's on Trinity played Jr. hockey. Don't go by the NESCAC team's roster's because they have a tendency to only list the high school the player attended as their last team. For instance goalie Alex Morin played for the Islanders Hockey Club of the USPHL but they have his last team listed as The Northwood School. Prep hockey is pretty good but doesn't put a ton of high end players straight into college. There are exceptions but it's not the rule.

The Trinity roster is kind of half-and-half (prep followed by juniors; pure prep)

      Tyler Whitney: USPHL
      Anthony Sabitsky: BCHL
      Liam Feeney: NAHL
      Ryan Cole: NAHL
      Griff Martin: Union transfer
      TJ Sherman: NAHL
      Sam Johnson: NAHL
      Alex Morin: USPHL
      Mark Knowlton: USPHL

      Pure preppers:
      Brandon Cole: Kimball Union
      Sean Orlando: Westminster
      Ethan Holdaway: Westminster
      Barclay Gammill: Berkshire
      Will Sleeper: Noble & Greenough
      Ryan Pfeffer: Thayer
      Connor Hegarty: BB&N

Yeah, and Michael O' Brien played in the USPHL, Charlie Zuccarini played in the BCHL and at Arizona State, Andy Chugg played in the BCHL and Bentley. Point being they are not as reliant on pure prep players as the roster makes it seem. Since Matt Greason took over they have shifted from mostly prep to mostly junior players. The prep players do make very good role players though and many do eventually develop into pretty solid offensive talents as well. Teams that are made up of a good mix of players from different leagues and used properly in their roles are the ones that have the most success.

Generally true but Holdaway and Orlando were big contributors from the word go and much more than role players . .

Thanks for the insight. I was a bit confused at the game reading through the roster and seeing ONLY prep schools listed.

Will be interesting to see if the other NESCAC schools follow suit, and recruit more JR players as opposed to "Pure Preppers" as d3follower so aptly coined the term.

The breakdown of the Trinity roster between junior hockey products and pure preppers is typical for the NESCAC rather than atypical. Generally speaking, the roster of the typical NESCAC is 50% or more junior hockey products, with some (like Hamilton) going even higher and others (like Middlebury) going lower. .

Absolutely true. Westminster has a top notch program and does put out some very good D3 talent.

I don't know about you guys, but what really helps me get through the long layoff for Div3 hockey is keeping up on the commitments. The link below to Elite Prospects transactions page is always a good source, as is Div3Hockey.com's commitment section. Posting on here is also a good source for information, so if anyone hears of any, let us know!
