What you say may indeed help explain why the schedule turned out as it did. We'll just have to see how things play out over the next few years. Just hope that staying local isn't due to cuts in the travel budget. An unintended by-product may well be that any serious Hobey candidates (Gaudette/Sikura?) may be at a disadvantage because of perceived strength of schedule concerns among the voters.

And isn't it ironic that a USNWR top-40 national university isn't considered a marquee opponent in the hockey world.

Brutal schedule, I always try and make one game. I would love to go to RIT, but its also their homecoming weekend. Looks like UMass will be the closest opponent to home.

Unless the NU press release that accompanied the schedule is wrong, the NU-RIT game is at the downtown Blue Cross Arena (capacity 10.7K), not the on-campus rink. So you shouldn't have any problem.

It's funny how long the process of being "marquee" takes. Lowell has been by far the best program in this league the last 5 years and their OOC schedule is Omaha (2), Clarkson, SLU, Bentley, AIC and ASU (2). I'd imagine UNH and Maine have better OOC opponents than that because they're still seen as being more marquee nationally.

Our OOC SOS (fun with letters) should be helped by playing BC and then BU/Harvard in the Beanpot at least.

The costs of flying have gone up this year. Attendance in many venues was down in 2016-17. Perhaps schools like Michigan, which used to pay teams to come play weekend series, have cut back on the practice. We'll learn more at the meeting next Wednesday.

Cayden Primeau blogs about his combine experience. Pretty cool insight.

FOH meeting tomorrow. Is anyone going? And does anyone who isn't going have a particular topic they want asked of Coach Madigan?

would like to hear about any plans on any pipeline improvements to the facility/ concessions etc. We need to get going with that, given how the city around that has changed. Would be nice if they can do something.. keeping the essence of the structure intact; but improving the experience (food, amenities etc). For alumni, families, casual fan visiting etc. If you build a (better) experience.. more will come. There is so much potential with that place!
                    Go Huskies. Thx

This is correct, I will be there. Fair warning, this is RIT's homecoming weekend so if you plan on getting a hotel book early.

Just a heads up, despite the homecoming game being played at Blue Cross Arena (10,700) it has sold out for the last 7 years straight. If you're looking to go, make sure to get your lower bowl tickets early.

Thank you for that detailed recap. lots of moving parts with the scheduling & future series to look forward to..

and i do wish some of those 'private' discussions about improvements to Matthews/ the fan, / player experience, come to fruition as that itself will help with the attendance issue as other schools have shown. thx again

The discussion of the recruiting class at the FOH meeting was fairly brief and was focused primarily on the bluest of our chips - Zach Solow and Cayden Primeau.

However the most important recruiting battle that NU won this spring was never discussed. It is no longer a secret that Jerry Keefe had the opportunity to become the Head Coach of the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. This is one of the premier coaching posts in the top Junior A league in North America. The job has been a stepping stone to D1 College HC jobs or to the NHL.

The Lancers came after him hard with a salary and other benefits that would have meant a substantial increase in income. It's a safe bet that he could have sold his home in MA and use the proceeds to buy two homes in the Omaha area. The team has tremendous fan and media support .

Happily for us, Jerry enjoys where he is and what he does. He declined the Lancers' offers in order to continue as our Associate HC, chief recruiter, architect of the #2 power play in the country (Actually #1 in terms of PP goals scored) and COO (Chief Offensive Officer). Methinks we got lucky here!

I'm assuming JM didn't if you didn't include it, but did he name captains? Also, is it a surprise that Hawkins won't be eligible until the 2nd half of the season since he didn't play a game last season? Is there anyone to blame (other than the NCAA) for the fact Pec and Hawkins haven't been eligible to play immediately after sitting out a year?
