“Being able to use hockey to get an education has been a goal of mine for a long time,” said Burke. “The fact that I am going to have the opportunity to do that at RPI is beyond exciting. RPI gives me the chance to continue to chase my dream of playing professional hockey while graduating with a degree from a world class institution. http://www.centraljuniorhockeyleague...ws/news_486119

Sure i would love scorers at any height and weight, but for now will settle for some bruisers who want to play RPI hockey.
I wonder if that was the reason that Hayhurst was thinking about leaving. He might have felt that he would not fit in Coach's Smith's plans.

Smith said he wanted to play a speedy, skilled, competitive brand of hockey. Jake has speed and skill to spare. Hope Smith can keep him in Troy. ( side note - had a great conversation with his grandpa in Potsdam. Great people )

Possibly the top two forwards during Smith's time at Canisius were the Conacher brothers. Neither is very big and Cory, who has played over 100 NHL games, was almost exactly the same size as Jake while in Buffalo. I'm sure Coach Smith is smart enough to take advantage of his most talented players and Hayhurst definitely fits in that category.

I guess I was wrong, but Jerry and Burke both have size, and Richards isn't small either.

I don't think you are wrong. Looking at Smith's Canisius rosters he seems to value size more than Seth did. However, he has had talented smaller players so I don't think a player like Jake would need to be concerned about not fitting in. In fact, I hope that doing a better job establishing a presence along the boards and in front of the net will provide fast skill players like Jake with a little more room in the offensive zone.

P.S. If coach wanted to establish the impression that size is going to be our dominant feature, then he kept the wrong assistant.............

I do think that the three recruits are probably about he best one could hope for at this time.

In fact, I hope that doing a better job establishing a presence along the boards and in front of the net will provide fast skill players like Jake with a little more room in the offensive zone.

P.S. If coach wanted to establish the impression that size is going to be our dominant feature, then he kept the wrong assistant.............

                      Good point about Graham.

The good thing is that Graham more than makes up for it in what he brings to the table, even under the Appert regime...

I am straying from "recruits", but it was impossible for me to tell what Nolan Graham was responsible for since the consensus has been that everything had SA's signature.

Please move further discussion to the main thread.
