  • Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

For the 1st time since may 2006 (Twins/Mariners), a run was scored on a triple play. The Reds pulled off the triple play against the Yankees tonight, but not before a run scored.

Twins considering moving Garcia and Santana if their slide continues. Idiots.

You put this sh*t pitching staff together. What did you think was going to happen? Overpaid crap is still crap.

It's not the offenses fault you can't keep a lead vs the Dodgers.

Selling off your best pitcher isn't going to fix your poor decision making for next year's sh*t staff of arms.

Yeah, moving Santana doesn't make any sense. He's under contract for 2018 with a team option for 2019. This team should be better next year and probably better than that in 2019. Santana would likely be able to provide quality, meaningful starts those years and hopefully help the team make the postseason. Throw in that this team is still in the hunt for the postseason this year (although, admittedly unlikely), and getting rid of your ace on an already weak rotation makes 0 sense...unless of course they get a tremendous haul in return.

Now, trading Garcia wouldn't bother me all that much. His contract is up after this season, and they didn't give up a whole lot to get him. I would see how things go on Friday and what the market looks like in 3-4 days. If they aren't any closer to contention and they can get similar value than they gave up to get him...then I'm okay with them moving Garcia.

I would note one other thing, and that is that the Twins schedule coming out of the All-Star break (@Houston, vs Yankees, vs Detroit, @Dodgers) has been pretty tough. While I think this team will fall short of the postseason this year, they could very well push .500 and could be in contention for the postseason in September. The more meaningful games this team can play will only help them in the next couple of years when they should be pushing for the playoffs.

David Price to the DL with an elbow issue.

Now he's got more time to run his mouth at Dennis Eckersley.

He's hitting .423 when you eliminate strikeouts. That's probably close enough for purposes of this conversation.

If you're going to hit .400 you'd better figure on an absolute minimum of 240 hits if you're going to stay healthy all year. And if you're at the top of the lineup, that's probably not enough, as you'll likely exceed 600 AB's. So at least 250 hits over a full season. That's over a hit-and-a-half per game. All year.

There's a reason no one has hit .400 in 76 years, 87 years in the NL. Even Tony Gwynn was at .394 during the strike year of 1994. He probably wasn't going to top .380 that year.
