Have they changed the rule on an offsides pass from the defensive end? In the old days that would go back to the point of the pass, but the announcers seemed genuinely surprised when they did it in this game.

I thought it might have been intentional; I didn't see it was a home-run pass...

It was. The defenseman banked it off the boards to avoid our left-defenseman, but that put the forward just off-side.
