Originally posted by rufus View PostYeah, but it's different reasons for each side. The Tea Party and the Freedom Caucus hate it because it keeps too much of Obamacare, it doesn't kick people off insurance fast enough. The Democrats hate it because it destroys Obamacare.
And not sure why Trump would run away from all this. From what I've read, if this plan doesn't pass, then Trump's backup plan is just to strangle Obamacare so it collapses under its own weight, and then blame it on democrats who knew it would collapse from the get-go, but refused to pass his healthcare plan that would have saved people's health insurance.
And there are ways they can do that. One they've already done, which is repeal the taxes on the higher earners. Repeal the mandate. Cut back on the expanded Medicaid funds. If there's no money to make Obamacare work, then it won't. And they'll just say, "see, we told you it was failing".Legally drunk???? If its "legal", what's the ------- problem?!? - George Carlin

Really? cause right now there's a good part of the electorate who will believe anything Donald Trump tells them. If he tells them its Democrats fault they lost their insurance because they decided to stick with a failing Obamacare rather than vote to put his new greatest health care evah program into action, they'll believe him.
Tell us again how Hillary had it in the bag. Dumbass. What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

Republicans tried that the last time they controlled govt and it lead to the 2006 midterm results.a legend and an out of work bum look a lot alike, daddy.

I know you want to get your dig in on Rover and that is fine but the only people trusting Trump right now on this stuff are the Trumpettes. Trump and Ryan are tied to this piece of crap legislation until the bitter end and no amount of blaming will help. The Democrats have nothing to do with it, no vote they make will change it and for once, the media is covering exactly how they should.
And your point about how each side opposes this for different reasons is not really relevant I am sorry. It doesnt matter why two sides hate something, it matters that they do. If the Heritage Foundation whips up the Reaganites to oppose something and the Tea Party gets their band of "winners" to oppose it and the Left opposes it because they actually care whether people get health care that is all that matters. If Tea Partiers go after their puppets because they hate it and the AARP crowd attacks it for their reasons and the CPACers for their reason and the Progressives for theirs that is a lot of voters turning on Congressmen/Czar Urea. They wont be able to function with that kind of coalition against them. (that is a relative term obviously) There arent enough Trumpettes out there to keep him in power if this goes as bad as pretty much everyone agrees it will.
Again, if this wasnt going to be an issue why is it the only thing anyone is talking about? Why is Congress doing everything they can to spin it because their voters all hate it? Why are the usual ObamaCare talking points falling flat? Why are the people who hate Obama and railed against ObamaCare out in full force telling their reps to keep ObamaCare? (besides being paid by George Soros obviously) It is because no one is fooled or can afford to look away because unlike Wall Street Regulations or other minutiae this effects them personally. No amount of spinning by Bill O'Reilly and his crew will fix that. This was a bad tactical mistake by Trump (promising a plan) and an even worse overcorrection by Ryan and his flunkies.Last edited by Handyman; 03-12-2017, 08:52 PM."It's as if the Drumpf Administration is made up of the worst and unfunny parts of the Cleveland Browns, Washington Generals, and the alien Mon-Stars from Space Jam."

John Oliver covered Health Care again last night. Destroyed Paul Ryan and his plan. I hope it passes.**NOTE: The misleading post above was brought to you by Reynold's Wrap and American Steeples, makers of Crosses.

Meanwhile, if you had health insurance, and then Congress controlled entirely by the GOP passed a law and now you don't, even the stupidest people out there can add 1+1 to make 2. Sorta like trying to blame the Dems equally for Iraq War fiasco didn't save GOP in 2006.Legally drunk???? If its "legal", what's the ------- problem?!? - George Carlin

Hospitals and doctor's offices need to hire more staff to deal with more payers each with their own forms and procedures
meanwhile, most people don't shop around for health insurance like they do auto or homeowner's insurance -- they are stuck with whatever their employer offers, so the market doesn't favor the company with the best customer service or best provider network, it favors the companies that make the best deals with employers.
Employers should never have been offering health insurance as a fringe benefit to begin with. We would have had a far more rational, sensible, functional health insurance market had they never been involved.
The only reason they did goes back to WWII. There were wage and price controls to combat inflation; but they only "controlled" cash wages, not fringe benefits. So employers merely started offering more and more fringe benefits as a way to recruit and/or retain talent.
People should be able to shop around freely for health insurance.
The first part of your argument could apply equally well to construction suppliers: "if each supplier could use their own measurements for lumber; if each contractor could use his own standards on how far apart to place studs..." well, the industry developed standards and everyone then competes to supply the same size lumber, everyone competes to build walls with studs 16" apart, etc." The state insurance commissioner mandates one standard set of paperwork for every insurance provider; which by the way they already do for auto insurance....all else considered, the problem we have now is too little competition; too many monopoly profits all down the line."Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things."

And that opposed to trickle down economics? That concentrates the wealth and power at the top, and puts the worker at a severe disadvantage- bordering on enslavement. See how illegal immigrants are treated in many industries.
Besides, in the context of history, as a country, the US has been pushing our identity and morals all over the world. How is that ok but the opposite is not? Especially when "detente" was the way of the world, we did a great job of taking out suspected communists, and implanting horrible dictators. See much of South America.
The whole "libertarian" way of living as you want is a great daydream, as it ignores the impact you have on your neighbors. Unless you are ok with someone punching you in the face, literally and figuratively.
Looking back, it's interesting that the era you want to go back to is having massive tension between powers. To have detente, you need tension in the first place.

Imagine if any country did to us what we did in Panama, just because of someone selling drugs. Heck, what if China invaded Guam, because they thought we were too imperialistic, like we did to Spanish territories in 1898?
To me, the whole anti-globalist thing is massively hypocritical.

If you have an issue with those choices, contact your representatives and tell them to get the Republicans to stop gutting the measures that enabled a competitive marketplace in the insurance industry.Code:As of 9/21/10: As of 9/13/10: College Hockey 6 College Football 0 BTHC 4 WCHA FC: 1
