Can't say I'm jumping for joy at the prospects of a 15 yr. old kid from the hockey *hotbed* of Germany joining the program in a few years' time. Although as a world history buff, I have to say it's very interesting that our incoming head-coach-in-waiting, who was a staple of Team Italy in a few IIHF events, has already recruited a Japanese kid, and now has a German kid lined up to play for him in the future, too.

Are we trying to win Hockey East, or is this for something bigger?

Looks to me like he's trying to win a rematch of WWII from the loser's side of the bracket, so to speak.

He has a higher profile than our past recruits, so I'm not going to diminish his commitment. Especially since we've decried the program's myopic approach to foreign markets.

Maine got a similar kid a few years ago and he wound up going major junior. Hopefully for you this kid shows up.

The USHL is pretty picked over for potential D (and F's) ready to make an impact next year. There are foreign goalies - led by Zhukov - available, but, Watcher, I'd still prepare on them moving forward with Clark/Robinson next year. I don't think they add another forward necessarily either...

That leaves under the radar recruiting grounds (NAHL, OJHL, MNHS) or the BCHL if they want to add ready D for next year. In addition to or in place of Verrier.

Carter Stephenson may be the best option or of BC - he's a '98 from W. Vancouver and a teammate of Crookshank in Langley. He's played over 100 career BCHL games and is a 0.5 PPG guy this year. He's 5-11, 180 AND a RD...

Otherwise, if they are looking for a D in either the USHL or BCHL they're probably better off looking young and trying to strike gold with true FR again...

                                ---

If they do look G, Zhukov should be the guy. He's 6-3 and plays in Green Bay with Verrier. Was drafted out of Russia by Las Vegas. We could call him the general after his WWII namesake...
