Now this is not only a great argument for voting, but a good argument to vote Hillary lest those freedoms go by the wayside under the darkness of tyranny. I won't get the same endorphin rush this year, I had to get an absentee ballot. But the vote still counts.

I'm lucky, my voting place just changed from an intolerable 2 miles away to about 200 yards. It's a tiny little local library. I will be able to look the 95% of my neighbors voting Trump right in the eye after I've helped send him to the ash heap of 22nd century bar trivia.

No doubt there will be fifteen poll watchers on the look out for Muslims and Negroes.

Mentioning the FSM, I just heard a great question on KNOX-AM (Grand Forks): Which candidate better lives their faith? I'll call it a toss up. Hillary has no discernible religion or faith and shows it; Trump only worships himself and does it well. Toss up.

While I don't fully disagree with their politics, Sanders and Warren are pretty much anti establishment. They are here to blow up the norm and in ways offer a similarly dangerous approach as Trump. We have no idea what totally free would do to the quality of the best higher education system in the world. In general, Obama was the best option. Modestly liberal, progressive, inclusive and popular. Problem is that he couldn't bulldoze his way through opposition to get things executed. That's different than wanting to just blow up the status quo (and probably not getting that executed either).

In my opinion thinking like this is why we need a real left in this country. Thinking Obama is liberal, even modestly, or that Warren and Sanders are "dangerous," is the textbook example of the Overton window.

To be Christian means to live a life in and for Christ, not just part of a life, but a life*.

But to your point of Hillary being a "secularized Christian", or more precisely, "secularized", yeah, she's secular, and that's why I said it was a toss-up between her and Trump.

Seconded. I would never skip voting. That would be an insult to everyone in every country who has ever fought for the right of self-determination. It is bad enough that I am not an activist. That's the level of my betrayal of our ideals. But voting is IMHO the absolute minimal level of compliance of the requirement of a free people.

Likewise with voting.

Also: I don't know about anybody else but when I vote I feel good. I come out of the polling site with a spring in my step, and it's not just because hockey season is starting. For one day I feel connected to and brothers with all my fellow Americans. It's really the only time I feel patriotic, and it feels great.

We may have different reasons for voting. For me, it just feels right.

Regarding the point that generated this discussion, I'll admit that when I vote I sometimes don't vote for some of the downballot offices, where I don't know the candidates, especially if they're running unopposed.

okay, "force" is not the word, you're right. Let's try tThis: It's not cool with me when people try to persuade me to vote for their guy by means of transferring guilt. Acceptable? Bunch of pedantics around here.

Totally acceptable, as would have been "It annoys the [asterisk string] out of me when people try to convince me by making me feel guilty." And violently agree that the right to vote includes the right not to vote (I believe North Korea does better than 99%), even if I don't agree with the reason anyone else chooses to vote or not to vote. Even agree with your parting statement.

My iron clad strategy for downballot races I don't know anything about: vote for the candidate with the fewest signs.
