UNH 3 UNB 1. 2 players from each team ejected for misconduct. One UNH player injured (separated shoulder). Officials worked hard to keep the lid on it. Question we UNH fans want an answer for is our player ineligible for next weekends opener v Bentley?

    Penalties UNH 9/28 UNB 11/37

Was tough to watch in person. No flow what-so-ever as you can imagine; McGill 13/45.....RPI 16/40. That’s 85 PIMs!

Ineligible. See the post earlier in this thread from Flagdude. BG loses 3 players for our season/WCHA opener at Bemidji under the same rule.

    I'm seeing a pattern here...

    Re: Exhibition Scoreboard

Just got back from the OSU-Wilfrid Laurier game. There were definitely a decent amount of penalties, but I couldn't say one team was any more "goonish" than the other. I think its easy to call out the CIS players and say we should do away with these exhibition games, but in my experience the NCAA players are just as guilty of goon tactics as their CIS counterparts. People say the Canadians have nothing to lose, but remember this is just an exhibition for them too. Everybody likes to win, but no one on the CIS teams wants to get players injured any more so than the NCAA teams do. I think a lot of the chippiness comes as much from NCAA players expecting an easy win and getting frustrated when its not handed to them as from any chip on the shoulder the CIS players may or may not have.

If it's just a MISCONDUCT, the player is still eligible per normal MISCONDUCT rules. If it's a DISQUALIFICATION, as were the BG players, the player must sit out the next game, or games, per the DISQUALIFICATION rules.

The only thing that affects the NCAA in these games are injuries and disqualifications. In the case of the Windsor players being assessed DISQUALIFICATION penalties in the BG game, they should be suspended for the next game they play against an NCAA team (Michigan today). I do not know if that happened or not.

Goalie ejected from Acadia for a spear at PC and there was a few hut from behind penalties but very little gooning behavior outside of the spear.

Ah. Yes. Misconduct vs. DQ. I didn't read closely enough.

Box score says misconduct; he's eligible. However, two more game misconducts this season, and he will be suspended. http://www.collegehockeystats.net/16...s/mnbrunh1.o02

SLU-QTR not a lot of rough stuff except a couple of scrum in front of goalies. Way too many ticky-tacky interference calls on both teams...hopefully they get away from over calling that as NCAA play starts!

    Re: Exhibition Scoreboard

NCAA Exhibition scoreboard for October 2, 2016:

    Carleton (CIS) 3 @ #5 Boston College 4
    Guelph (CIS) 6 @ Canisius 2
Mount Royal (CIS) 0 @ Colorado College 3
Laurentian (CIS) 4 @ Lake Superior State 3 in OT
    St. FX (CIS) 6 @ Maine 5
Toronto (CIS) 2 @ Michigan State 2 in OT
    USA U-18 (USHL) 1 @ #9 Notre Dame 5
    Victoria (BCIHL) 1 @ Northern Michigan 10
Wilfrid Laurier (CIS) 2 @ Ohio State 9
    Acadia (CIS) 0 @ #10 Providence 3
    Queen's (CIS) 0 @ Penn State 8
    McGill (CIS) 0 @ RPI 3
    Regina (CIS) 2 @ #7 St. Cloud State 6
    UQTR (CIS) 1 @ #16 St. Lawrence 4
    Simon Fraser (BCIHL) 0 @ Alaska 2
    Windsor (CIS) 0 @ #11 Michigan 2
    UPEI (CIS) 0 @ #8 UMass-Lowell 7
    UNB (CIS) 1 @ New Hampshire 3

Guelph and St. FX took wins from NCAA teams for the second night in a row. Laurentian took down LSSU in OT, and Toronto also took Michigan State to OT to earn a 2-2 tie (Michigan State won the exhibition shootout). #5 Boston College won a close one with the Carleton Ravens at the brand new Warrior Ice Arena in Boston. Victoria fell by the score of 10-1 for the second straight night. From what I've heard, as a club team, the Vikes players have had to pay their own way on this road trip, and apparently they only arrived at Northern Michigan an hour before puck drop. They also apparently only brought three lines worth of forwards with them. So before you judge them and BCIHL too harshly, I think they deserve a bit of a handicap.

New Brunswick at Merrimack - 172 PIM, 4 majors (hitting from behind, high sticking, slashing, contact to the head)
Windsor at Bowling Green - 168 PIM, 8 majors (5 fighting, 1 charging the goalie, 1 abuse of officials, 1 head-butting)
Western Ontario at Niagara - 161 PIM, 9 majors (8 facemasking, 1 slashing)
Prince Edward Island at Boston University - 122 PIM, 4 majors (2 roughing, 1 clipping, 1 hitting from behind)
Acadia at Northeastern - 114 PIM, 2 majors (contact to the head, facemasking)
    Québec à Trois-Rivières at Clarkson - 69 PIM, 3 majors (2 roughing, 1 hitting from behind)
Brock at RIT - 67 PIM, 1 major (facemasking)
Dalhousie at Massachusetts - 66 PIM, 2 majors (hitting from behind)
Waterloo at Miami - 64 PIM, 2 majors (kneeing, cross-checking)
Guelph at Mercyhurst - 57 PIM, 1 major (checking from behind)
McGill at Quinnipiac - 54 PIM, 2 majors (elbowing, cross-checking)
Mount Royal at Denver - 51 PIM, 3 majors (boarding, checking from behind, fighting)
Concordia at Vermont - 48 PIM
Toronto at Western Michigan - 42 PIM
Carleton at Holy Cross - 37 PIM, 1 major (contact to the head - cross-checking)
St. Francis Xavier at Connecticut - 35 PIM, 1 major (contact to the head - high sticking)
Queen's at Robert Morris - 31 PIM, 1 major (infraction not listed)
Victoria at Wisconsin - 26 PIM
Manitoba at North Dakota - 20 PIM
Regina at Minnesota State - 20 PIM

Of the 20 games 15 had at least 1 major called and there were 44 majors called in total. It will be interesting to see how the 18 games Sunday are called and how the teams adjust to the officiating.
Here are the PIMs and majors for the 18 exhibition games today:

Carleton at Boston College - 103 PIM, 3 majors w/GMs (roughing)
McGill at Rensselaer - 85 PIM, 1 major w/GM (slew footing)
New Brunswick at New Hampshire - 66 PIM, 2 majors w/GMs (facewashing, cross-checking)
Acadia at Providence - 57 PIM, 1 major w/GM (spearing)
    Queen's at Penn State - 51 PIM, 1 major w/GM (cross-checking)
(note: Queen's had 45 PIM to 6 PIM for PSU)
Laurentian at Lake Superior State - 42 PIM
    Québec à Trois-Rivières at St. Lawrence - 36 PIM
St. Francis Xavier at Maine - 35 PIM, 1 major (high sticking)
USA Under-18 Team at Notre Dame - 34 PIM
Prince Edward Island at UMass Lowell - 30 PIM
Victoria at Northern Michigan - 30 PIM
Simon Fraser at Alaska - 28 PIM
Mount Royal at Colorado College - 28 PIM
Windsor at Michigan - 28 PIM
Regina at St. Cloud State - 26 PIM
Toronto at Michigan State - 26 PIM
Wilfrid Laurier at Ohio State, 24 PIM
Guelph at Canisius - 23 PIM, 1 major w/GM (hitting from behind)

Of the 18 games 7 had at least 1 major and 10 majors were called in total (9 with GMs, no DQs). Some of the Canadian teams appear to have learned from Saturday's games that the refs were calling everything, others not so much.

Looking at the penalties called for these 38 games I think the games will be called tighter, but even more so I think there will be far more 5 minute majors called. There were 54 majors called for 18 different penalties (one was not identified). Some were the ones we normally see called, such as hitting from behind, boarding and fighting, but many were ones rarely called, such as clipping, head-butting and slew footing, and several were for what we normally see called as 2 minute penalties such as cross-checking, slashing and roughing(!). Here is the list of the infractions that were given: facemasking (11), roughing (7), hitting from behind (6), fighting (6), cross-checking (5), high sticking (3), slashing (2), checking from behind (2), contact to the head (2), charging the goalie (1), abuse of officials (1), head-butting (1), clipping (1), kneeing (1), elbowing (1), boarding (1), slew footing (1), spearing (1). So even if a player takes what they think is a normal penalty they could be surprised with a 5 minute major and a GM (or DQ) instead of the expected 2 minute minor.

Most of the ^above^ teams are Top 5 CIS programs manned with ex-major jumior players. Calling them "upsets" is a bit of an overstatement.

That's fair. Still, I think most NCAA teams go into these games expecting a win, regardless of who they're playing.

UNB, Acadia, St. Francis and McGill all have very respectable historical records against the NCAA.

**I should throw in a disclaimer that I attended and played for one of the above programs.
