Methinks that should answer some of your questions and concerns, man.

If you don't like it, you don't have to read it. Much like you I live in a free country, complete with the freedom of speech, even here on a forum which allows for differing opinion, a variety of content, and being named called by "Bill" who is the self appointed expert in his own mind, on the good ship Laker. Happy Thanksgiving chum.

The last time the Lakers won at Yost before tonight was February 10, 2006 (3-2 in overtime). Great job Lakers!

Nice win. Tech deserved better than what they came away with at Yost. This helps! Good luck to Lake State tomorrow.

Great win! Hope they play like that again tonight. They need to find some consistency. Definitely trending in the right direction.

What a big win for the good ship Laker, and a great call from the Voice of the Lakers, Bill Crawford. Methinks head coach Damon Whitten has this team flying and heading in the right direction, man. http://www.lssulakers.com/ http://www.hockeynewsnorth.com/ http://www.saultthisweek.com/

For the first time since 2005-06, Lake Superior State claimed victory in Yost Ice Arena with a 3-1 win over Michigan in nonconference action Friday against its former Central Collegiate Hockey Association rival.

The Lakers (7-6-0) snapped a five game losing streak with the series-opening win over the 16th-ranked Wolverines (5-5-1). LSSU scored three unanswered goals, including a pair of goals with less than three minutes remaining in the third period, to cap the thrilling finish.

Tony Calderone opened the scoring with a power-play tally from just inside the blue line. The shot found its way through a pair of LSSU defensemen to catch Gordon Defiel off-guard.

Twenty-three seconds after the goal by Calderone, sophomore Josh Nenadal tied the game with his second goal on the season. He snuck the puck under Pat LaFontaine's blocker. LSSU senior captain Gus Correale picked up the primary assist with a centering pass from the corner that found Nenadal. Sophomore Diego Cuglietta also picked up his first of two assists on the night on the play.

The Wolverines spiked offensively in the third period with the score still knotted at 1-1, but were unable to breach the Lakers defense or Defiel, who saved all 16 shots that came his way in the final 20 minutes.

With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Mitch Hults found J.T. Henke on the far blue line with a breakout pass from the Lakers' defensive zone faceoff circle. Hults's pass hit Henke in stride and the junior forward patiently found freshman Luke Morgan streaking through the slot. Henke made a perfect one-time pass that Morgan finished to put the Lakers ahead 2-1.

Michigan had a chance to tie the game with the puck on their leading scorer Will Lockwood's stick. He closed in on Defiel after an errant pass by the Lakers' defense. Lockwood used his speed and tremendous puck handling skills to get in all alone, but was hauled down by junior defenseman Aidan Wright with a heads-up play to take the penalty and not surrender the LSSU's lead.

The Wolverines controlled the ensuring faceoff, but a scramble in the boards resulted in a shorthanded two-on-one opportunity for Cugglietta and Correale. Cuglietta made a nice play to take the puck and start the breakout and passed to Correale, who sure-handedly skated the puck right into the Michigan net to ice the Lakers' victory.

Defiel made 29 saves to earn the game's first star honors. LaFontaine made 25 saves and allowed just two goals in a strong 58:30 of action in the Wolverines' net.

The teams close the weekend series on Saturday night with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at Yost Ice Arena.

Turn overs really hurt the Lakers tonight but a split in AA is nothing to cry about. I think back to two seasons ago and realize that this team has made huge strides and I have no reason to believe that they won't continue to keep getting better.

After we tied the game at 1, it sounded like we had some chances to take the lead in the 2nd period but Nagelvoort made some key saves for UM. Then Gordie apparently let in a soft goal and the momentum switched back to UM for much of the remainder of the game. A turnover led to the Wolverines 3rd goal in the 3rd period and that pretty much ended our chances. But yeah, a split at UM isn't bad.

Disappointed the Lakers lost tonight but at least I'm satisfied with a weekend split. Can't wait until Michigan comes to the Sault again. It sounds like that should happen within the next two years.

Tough series coming up against BGSU. They are hot right now as they are unbeaten in 8 or their last 9 games.

The Lake Superior State University Lakers deserved a better fate on Saturday night and had some tough luck, the bounces didn't go their way and couldn't buy a goal, and the refs once again played a key factor in helping Michigan. The good ship Laker played outstanding despite the 4-1 score, and the youth, short bench, fatigue up front, illnesses played a big part in the loss.

Methinks head coach Damon Whitten will have the boys ready for a big weekend at home, and they making a lot of progress, man.

After earning a series opening win on Friday night at Michigan, Lake Superior State fell to the Wolverines (6-5-1) in the series finale on Saturday night by a score of 4-1.

As expected, Michigan came out with a heavy offensive barrage to open the game and had the Lakers (7-7-0) on their heels early on, eventually holding a 10-1 lead in shots to open the game.

The Wolverines maintained the aggressive forecheck and were rewarded with an early goal on a net-mouth scramble 4:10 into the contest. Tony Calderone was credited with the tally, his sixth of the season and Dexter Dancs also factored in the score sheet with an assist on the play.

The Lakers found their offensive success late in the first, eventually scoring a goal to tie the game at 1-1 with less than five minutes remaining in the period.

Sophomore forward Diego Cuglietta set up the goal with a heads-up pocket picking of the Wolverines player trying to exit the defensive zone and the Kamloops, B.C., native found C.J. Hayes in stride to tuck the puck between Zach Nagelvoort's legs. The goal was the first point of the season for Hayes and Cuglietta's fifth helper.

The Lakers opened the second period looking for the lead and appeared primed to find the go-ahead goal, however mid way through the period Nolan De Jong took what appeared to be a harmless shot the snuck under Gordon Defiel's blocker.

Michigan took a 2-1 lead following 40 minutes of play and led 23-14 in shots, while controlling much of the offensive chances.

The Wolverines netted two goals in the third period, despite the Lakers finishing with a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal in the final frame.

James Sanchez scored the Wolverines' third goal of the game, unassisted, after picking off an errant pass in and firing it past the unsuspecting Defiel.

Sanchez later factored on Nicholas Boka's empty net goal, putting Michigan ahead by three with 50 seconds remaining in regulation.

The split on the road leaves the Lakers with a 2-6-0 record in the month of November, a tough stretch in the schedule that featured three in-state road series and opened with a split against Minnesota State at home.

The Lakers return home for the first time in a month, next weekend, facing Bowling Green on Dec. 2-3.
