Re: BGSU Falcons 2016-17: Rolling Along to the United Center

I posted this on AZZ, figured a win like this justified a repost here. Man did we look good tonight.

Wow. What a game. The team finally played a full 60 minutes. And they were clearly the better team the entire game. Couple of dumb mistakes on the two goals we gave up in the first period but we showed a lot of resilience -- we could have easily folded while down 2 but we didn't. Bednard was a beast between the pipes -- he made a couple of highlight reel saves. The boys did a great job on the forecheck and kept solid pressure on Bemidji all night. While shots were pretty even, I'd say the majority of the game was played in Bemidji's end. Breakouts were clean, we headmanned (sp?) the puck very nicely. Couple of times they missed open guys, but still a great effort. Did a much better job putting a guy in the slot which lead to a lot more scoring chances.

Mark Friedman's dad was a few rows in front of us and was pulling his hair out during an early power play when we were doing that pass pass pass garbage we've seen all year. Then Mark throws one in the net on the next PP and he raises his arms towards heaven with a "See what happens when you shoot!!!!" pose. Classic. Powerplay was a lot better. Still too much passing, but we were much more aggressive with shots. All-in-all, we were really hard on the Beavers (OK, someone had to say it...).

THIS is the team that was picked to win it all. Sure hope they don't regress.

They played very well i thought too. This could be the game that turns it around. Need to build off it next week on the road.

The gap isn't that big, but when you play two games and are generally expected to lose the first one, doing so makes it more likely to lose the next night. I'd like to see separation, no matter who it is.

Our pattern this year seems to be play like crap for the first 45 min, play like Denver for the next 15, play like crap for the next 15, then play like the Blackhawks for the last 45. That usually equates to a split.

Given the fact that we can only play for 40 minutes at a time, I would put the probability of a split at 99.9%.

Seems to be the most likely explaination. Even Bergeron alluded to that a few weeks ago. When BG is good I'd put them against any team in the nation. The problem is we've only seen about eight periods total of that this year.

Great weekend for a SWEEP! We put two very good games together and deserve a bump to our thread. Who do we want next, Tech or Purple Cows?

                      Roll along you BG Warriors!

Well, we split with the purple cows and got swept at home by MTU. Part of me prefers MSU, part of me wants revenge against MTU.

Houghton is 608 miles away. Mankato is 683 miles with a parking lot called Chicago in the middle. I want Tech.

From a "better road trip" point of view Mankato is a much nicer setup than Houghton. If you stay downtown they have a very vibrant arena district with plenty of dining and bars in walking distance. There's even a couple hotels connected to the arena.

Houghton would have the better in-arena experience, though.

Do they not teach probability at BG? Funny, they have good programs up there that would require prob/stats. But the latest numbers do like BG: http://blog.wchaplayoffs.com/2017/03...ns-2017-03-12/

Congrats on the series win! The Falcons were the better team this weekend and got the reward. Good luck against Tech or Mankato.
