IIRC, most UT restaurants only get a license to serve wine and 4% beer. There is a type of license that allows a full bar, but it is very expensive and they're limited in quantity. Have to go to a state store to get anything harder than that. Also, you are required to order a food item to drink, which is always a surprise for first-time visitors.

Hmmm, pretty sure I had a strong Wasatch Brewing beer, without food when I was there a few years ago.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were some variations by county now. Salt Lake is fairly liberal these days, and obviously Park City.

Don't confuse being "not ultra conservative" with being fairly liberal.

Trying to wind down after late night soccer is stupid hard.

The adrenaline needs to subside and since I can't eat before the games, I have to stuff face after. it's 12:30 am and I'm finally getting ready for bed.

When I played beer league hockey and the games were late at night, some starting at 10:55PM ("[X] league games all start before 11:00PM!"), I'd take a half-day PTO just for that reason.

Utah relaxed their liquor laws at the insistence of Jon Huntsman, because he knew that Salt Lake City was missing out on conventions because of their liquor laws.

Draft beers are still limited to relatively low alcohol content (4% by volume or 3.2% by weight -- which is where "3.2 state" comes from) but you can get strong stuff in a bottle -- I've seen bottles with 8-10% for sure ("heavy" beer). They also did away with the Utah "Private Club". It used to be restaurants could only serve beer and wine. To get hard stuff you had to go to a private club. College students had books full of club membership cards.

You can get a beer without food in some restaurants (beer only restaurants), or in any "club". Basically a "dining club" is a restaurant that is allowed to serve alcohol without a food order.

They still have some weird laws. And if you go to a bar all the liquor bottles have special spouts -- they slide into a dispenser that measures a specific amount as it pours into the glass and shuts it off after the proper amount is poured.

The Mormons may be one of the few religions with a sense of humor but they're FUBAR when it comes to beliefs.

Proof that even the Atlantic has stupid writers. This is a dumb article. Not just because the title is cringe-worthy, but is it really that big of an imposition to set your clocks twice a year? Hell, most of them do it automatically now.

I had to set FOUR clocks yesterday! Four! Enough is enough!

The issue isn't setting the clocks for me, or most people, I'd wager. It's the messing around with our sleep schedules - snow plows being irrelevant except for this year.
