    UM 3 - UMD 5 Final. SOG UM 32 - UMD 26.

The 'Dogs sweep UM which certainly helps atone for a couple of games earlier in the season that they shouldn't have lost.

Stalder from Brykaliuk (these two are great together) on a 2 on 1 seemed to freeze Peters 3 hole. Beautiful play. Brykaliuk who did not have a good game yesterday turned it around today with lots of effort.

Peters was pulled on a PP, down 5-3, with 2 minutes left in the game for a 6 on 4 with Brykaliuk in the box (things were looking unnecessarily difficult for UMD at that moment) but shortly afterwards UM took a couple of penalties ultimately giving UMD a 4 on 3 and then a short lived 5 on 3 which is how the game ended.

    No shortage of drama!

Stalder was the Star of the Game with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Good sized crowd with lots of kids who were mostly girls...official attendance 2024.

And I will say that there were a lot of good replays with different camera angles with the highlights being replayed often during the game...which is not always the case...so, full marks to the camera crew at The Amsoil today.

Dogs had two highlight reel goals in that game. Stalder on a break & the D gave her the whole left side of the net, Peters went down & Stalder just stood there waiting. the left side opened up & shot pushed the puck in. A very heady play. #13 had a picture perfect goal also.
I agree there were some really nice goals (and I think McGovern's was remarkable due to the almost impossible angle she took it from and how little there was for her to shoot at), both teams played better yet both had defensive breakdowns.

I was more than concerned with the UMD penalty with 2 minutes left in the game. The 'Dogs let 2 games slip away late earlier this season against lesser foes than UM and I thought "not again".

      UM kept battling back.

Entertaining game. Things are getting interesting.

        Recap of yesterday's game...great photo.

And 5 years to the day that the 'Dogs last beat UM!...what? It didn't used to be this way.

It was, but it was aided by Lee Stecklein doing absolutely nothing to contest the pass to Stalder. She wasn't even really in position to stop a Brykaliuk shot. I'm not sure what Peters was supposed to do there.

                Attendance for the weekend:
                1710 on Friday
                2024 on Saturday

A lot of people out for Bulldog Women's Hockey! I think there were quite a few Gopher fans (but oh well). Congrats on big series win for UMD!

The 'Dogs outmuscle the Beavs 5-1 this afternoon in Bemidji.

Stalder with a 4 point afternoon...3 goals and an assist!

Brykaliuk with 3 assists all on Stalder's goals.

Looks like the offense was clicking.

Attendance was 340...strikes me as being quite healthy for Bemidji for a Friday mid-afternoon game.

The dynamic duo are hitting their stride at the right time of the season. If you can stop them, you stand a chance of making a game out of it.

The 'Dogs squandered a couple of points in Bemidji this afternoon which would have moved them one point ahead of UM in the WCHA standings as opposed to being presently one point behind them.

The game was tied after regulation and BSU picked up the extra point in the shootout. BSU, never count them out.

Stalder with a goal and an assist on a Brykaliuk goal. Apart from these two and McGovern it would be nice to see a few other players scoring somewhat consistently.

I sure hope there is some decent scoring power among the new recruits for next season to replace the great output these two have generated this season.

A bit late in posting these accolades from last week...

Well, missed the first period of tonight's game which was tied at one after the first.

The scoreless second period which was played mostly in OSU's end was not exactly a yawner but not really inspiring either, not much flow even though the 'Dogs seemed determined. OSU missed on the couple of chances they had especially when Rooney came way out of her net to the side boards to scoop the puck and pass it cross ice, which she didn't get good wood on, which resulted in an OSU scoring opportunity with Rooney scrambling back to the vacated net.

Then McGovern bagged a nice one at 2:34 of the third while she was cruising cross crease a few feet out after receiving a clearing attempt by an OSU defender in the crease after she had passed a backhander to Stalder that ended up on the defender's stick putting the 'Dogs up 2-1 with a shot to a half open net as Sauve was moving to the other side to defend against the failed pass to Stalder.

                          Then the floodgates opened.

7:55 Healy from McGovern and Stalder (wrist shot from the point that hit someone in front and got redirected high far side on Sauve).

8:13 (18 seconds later) Morin from Crossman (who scored UMD's lone goal in the first) and Lowenhielm.

Sauve chased and replaced by Remington.

8:35 (23 seconds later) Lindh in the slot, from Schugel and Hedin, welcomes Remington to the game. (Couldn't help feeling badly for her.)

                          3 goals in 40 seconds!

9:35 Then exactly one minute later McGovern from Brykaliuk. (Felt even worse for her.)

                          4 goals in 1:40!!!!

                          UMD 6 - OSU 1 Final. SOG UMD 40 - OSU 19.

OSU's loan marker in the first was netted by Freiburger from Jincy Dunne and Mikkelsen.

OSU almost scored at 7:05 of the third as the puck dropped into the crease but was cleared by UMD...that would have tied the game and possibly changed what was later to be the complexion of the third period.

Then there was a 'Dog shooting gallery late in the third with no fewer than 5 shots taken in succession by various 'Dogs with the puck being cycled around the OSU net, but no go.

This scoring outburst by the 'Dogs reminds me of their team back in 2007-2010 when it was very common for them to score in bunches like this. Those were the days!

McGovern received the Player of the Game award with 2G and 1A.

These two teams square off again at the 'Dog Pound tomorrow at 4:00 P.M..

                                OSU 0 - UMD 1 after one. SOG OSU 2 - UMD 13.

The 'Dogs came out swarming the Bucks like a mess of smoke free bees and pretty much kept it up for the entire period.

The goal from Hedin came at 12:08 on a strange play in which, similar to Rooney last night, Sauve left her net for the left boards (although I missed what prompted that) but unlike Rooney, Sauve's sojourn was among traffic. This resulted in the puck meeting up with Hedin in the high slot as Sauve was regaining her net with her momentum taking her to the far side and Hedin's slapshot finding the open half of the net with Sauve unsuccessfully stabbing at it with her glove.

UMD missed a couple of good opportunities late in the period and headed to the dressing room on the PP.

Lots of good quick passing by the 'Dogs and this game, so far, is a lot faster than last night's.
