      BSU 0 - UMD 0 after one.

      SOG 17 - 9 UMD.

First and last 5 minutes of the period were fairly even but the 'Dogs took it to the Beavs in the middle of the period.

Only one really good scoring opportunity for the 'Dogs with Brykaliuk getting shut down by Mowat. Couldn't help but think that they probably played against each other in their pre-university days.

The rest of the 'Dogs shots were right at Mowat so not much of a threat.

      Brodt is quick.

Tied at one after two on a nice goal by Mrazova set up nicely by Lindh and a fluky?/terrible goal (from UMD's perspective) by BSU on a weak "shot" from Hutchinson at the blue line (that didn't seem as though it was meant as a shot) that seemed to slide along the ice through everyone including Rooney.

The flow from the first period seems to have disappeared.

        SOG 31 -15 UMD.

          UMD 2 - BSU 1 Final.

          SOG 41 -21 UMD.

Beautiful flow from Mrazova with a backhander after splitting the defence and taking a feed from Stalder.

In the dying moments she was in the slot and pulled the trigger but fanned...might have been her hat trick for the night.

Nice to watch Stalder and Brykaliuk on the same line together. Their play has improved considerably since last I saw them. Both playing with tons of confidence.

A bit of a nail biter in the last minute and a half after BSU pulled Mowat. They came close a time or two but then Stalder took the puck down the wing to the empty net but lost it at the last minute to a BSU defender.

Stalder and Brykaliuk`s stick handling ability seems to also have improved. But it was the confidence in their play that impressed me the most.

            UMD 2 - BSU 0 after one.

The 'Dogs came blasting out of the chute and were all over the Beavs in the first 5 minutes until the first goal was scored (McGovern from Brodt) then play became more balanced until the last 5 minutes when UMD turned it up somewhat again with Stalder cranking a vicious slapshot that dented the crossbar and then with 8 seconds left in the period a beauty, Crossman to Brykaliuk to Mrazova with a behind the back feed by Brykaliuk going into the corner to Mrazova who was crashing the net.

            SOG 10-3 UMD.

              UMD 3 - BSU 2 after 2.

Joyce with a beautiful wrist shot all alone in the slot went 2 hole to put the Beavs on the board 5 minutes into the second.

Nelson had a clear breakaway from her blue line but fell, unassisted, at the 'Dogs blue line and failed to get off a shot.

Hunt for the Beavs with a faux pas clearing the puck from behind her net right in front (at least from what I could tell) where Schugel buried it from McGovern and Astrup. (Correction: after seeing the replay Hunt lost any control that she might have had over the puck behind her net and it was quickly scooped up by McGovern and centered in front to Schugel with most of the net wide open for the goal).

Then late in the period on a 2 man advantage BSU notched one with a blast from Terres from the top of the face off circle.

The 'Dogs are letting BSU back into this game with a few defensive breakdowns and a couple of inattentive penalties.

              SOG 28-16 UMD.

                Re: 2016 UMD Season Thread

Terres ties it up 7 minutes in.

'Dogs score from a scrum in front but after review it is disallowed due to goaltender interference. Couldn't understand that after seeing the replay...McGovern had her back to Mowat and was just outside the crease when the shot was taken. Mowat had placed her stick between McGovern's legs just as the shot was taken.

Seemed like a few questionable calls to me.

Went to OT then Shootout where Stalder's laser 3 hole wrist shot beat Mowat for the "victory".

'Dogs' power play was anemic and as they didn't capitalize on several opportunities while at the same time committing defensive lapses the Beavs accepted the invites and with each conversion got visibly confident to UMD's detriment.

As mentioned, UMD let BSU back into this one when BSU had nothing going on.

Terres with 2 goals and an assist for BSU.

                SOG 38 - 26 UMD.

Inconsistent with the highlights...They were going highlight crazy during the game last night which was great but today...not so much.

                  UMD 4 - OSO 0 after one.

Stalder on a blast from the top of the face off circle as she was cruising in on the right wing that Sauve got a big piece of, but not enough, as it squeezed past her into the net.

Then 3 goals from the 'Dogs in 2 1/2 minutes later in the period!

Brodt at 14:48 on a weird one from a scrum by the right post that it looked like Sauve had that was reviewed and confirmed.

McGovern at 15:02 from close quarters in front.

And Brodt again at 17:18 on a nice wrist shot from the left face off circle.

The 'Dogs were taking away time and space from the Bucks early but what I was impressed with the most was their aggressive and relentless forechecking.

This is a very fast game...with no penalties to slow it down, yet.

Sauve not having her best game...maybe the very early goal contributed to what followed.

                    Re: 2016 UMD Season Thread

UMD 5 - OSU 0 after two. SOG 32-12 UMD (but it was 8-5 about half way through the first).

McGovern at 1:29 into the period from in front after a miscue on a clearing attempt by OSU.

                    Sauve pulled at 12:40.

'Dogs are on fire and their speed appears to be too much for the Bucks which created several decent scoring opportunities.

Remington with a nice save on Stalder all alone in front then OSU on a 2 on 1 that Rooney thwarted (OSU's first real scoring opportunity so far) which then resulted in a partial UMD breakaway.

Very fast game. 'Dogs are looking like they've done this together for years. Nothing but flow. Quite impressed after the last 4 years.

Can't help but feel for Sauve.

                      UMD 6 - OSU 0 Final. SOG UMD 38 - OSU 24 (approx.)

Schugel on another odd one in front about 4 minutes into the period.

UMD started taking some unnecessary penalties (possibly a weak call or two) which contributed to their SOG falling off a cliff in this period but they held OSU scoreless on 5 PP opportunities in the last two periods.

Johnson got some ice time in net taking over from Rooney roughly halfway through the period.

The game slowed somewhat as did the flow with the penalties but otherwise a dominant performance by the 'Dogs...fast skating, quick, sharp passes after quick decision making and beating OSU to the puck for the majority of the game.

                      They were just hungrier.

Didn`t notice Mrazova on the ice tonight.

                        UMD 0 - OSU 0 after one. SOG UMD 18 - OSU 5.

Sauve looks to be back in form and the Bucks are looking a lot more cohesive today.

The play looked fairly even for the first 7-8 minutes but then the 'Dogs cranked up the heat with their forechecking and began controlling the play with lots of possession in the OSU end creating several decent scoring opportunities that Sauve and one post denied.

Again, an extremely fast game. No penalties, good flow, just like yesterday's first period.

Good play by play commentary (but no replays, as was the case last night).

I've been watching this game also. This Bulldog team looks like the best in the WCHA (outside Minnesota and Wisconsin) since UND of 2012-13.

                            UMD 2 - OSU 0 after two. SOG UMD 39 - OSU 10.

Lindh at 11:28 tipping it in for UMD after a scrum in front.

                            Then Brykaliuk at 5:59.

The 'Dogs are putting on a passing clinic...tremendously fast and tape to tape.

And they relentlessly want the puck.

The play of the period had to be late when OSU got caught on a change leaving a 5 on 0 (Suave must have freaked) with a head man pass to Stalder at the OSU blue line who went offside!!!! Sauve must have wondered if she had just imagined all of this!!...but must have been extremely grateful with the end result, either way.

Late last season the 'Dogs seemed to be improving and I half joked about their employing the PP (Possum Play)...stealthily creeping up on their unsuspecting opponents with their seemingly improved ability...and I was half hoping that it was true.

About a month ago after they tied and then beat BC I made the comment that they might be for real, waiting for a larger sample size to test their consistency.

I now think they are for real. This is an amazing turnaround in the product on the ice from four years ago.

And they are extremely fast, which, (when combined with their tremendous passing accuracy and speed), if they continue to play at this pace I can only assume will cause all sorts of problems for their opponents regardless of the team.

                                UMD 3 - OSU 2 Final. SOG UMD 47 - OSU 26.

Field on a power play put OSU on the board around 7 minutes into the period (can't comment further because I missed it).

Then Morin at 4:35 with a nice wrist shot from a fairly sharp angle in the face off circle gave the 'Dogs back their two goal lead.

Dunne at 2:38 (you could see and feel this one coming with UMD starting to stand around in their own end and not challenging aggressively for possession) pulled the Bucks within one.

Sauve on the bench for the extra man with about 1:45 left but to no avail.

Things got really interesting late in the game and hopefully UMD will learn the seemingly endlessly forgettable lesson that you have to play 60 minutes otherwise things can change quickly to your detriment.
