New commit! Joey Baez, a 2000 forward playing for the York Skipjacks U16 AAA. Kid is from Florida has been putting up solid numbers the past couple of years in AAA. The Skipjacks are an up-and-coming AAA youth program. Imagine he'll be coming in 2019-2020.

Is James Allen still with us here? We'd love to host the two of you again at 414. The Beavers' current prosperity is a little disgusting for us, but we're at least still alive. ;-)

The natives are restless, even after Saturday's win. Winning some of the **** games at home would be a start, boys. Guess what —*we cheer for you, we pay for your scholarships, we do what we can to make sure that you have what you need. I know a number of fans who were truly excited about winning on Saturday, as if finally winning your first of seven home games is some magical thing.

Here's to a sweep this weekend and punching the Mavericks square in the nose next month. Points will be hard to come by in the spring.

                  Re: UAH Hockey 2016-17

Big sweep for the boys this past weekend. Looking like we may finally be turning the corner....

Anyway, for those interested, here's a little update on our recruits for 2017-2018:

                  Christian Rajic, 5'8 160 97 F Oakville (OJHL): 30 gp 6/24/30
Rajic has played solid hockey thus far for a strong Oakville team. He's putting up a point per game and appears to be playing top 6 minutes. Hopefully we'll see an increase in his production as the season progresses. The kid is known for his speed and leadership qualities; he's probably the best prospect in the class. His game compares to Salhany's with, IMO, better hands and offensive instincts. Should slide in to a top 9 role with us next year as a true freshmen.

                  Tyr Thompson 6'0 180 98 F Olds (AJHL): 31 gp 7/18/25
Tyr has really turned it on these past few weeks after a relatively slow start to the season. He's the second leading scorer on a below-average AJHL team. Tyr is a coach's kid who played his minor hockey all across the U.S. and Canada. With that eclectic background and a solid, smart two-way game to boot, he'll be a welcome addition to the Herd next season.

                  Connor Wood 5'8 170 96 F Odessa (NAHL): 23 gp 1/12/13 110 PIMs
Wood has maintained his overly aggressive, feisty style of play this season with Odessa in the NA as evidenced by his 110 PIMs in just 23 games. He's added more offense to his game this year, putting up just over a half a point per game. A long-time commit from the TPH Thunder program that has produced the likes of current Chargers Josh Kestner and Austin Beaulieu, Wood will provide a colorful presence in the locker room and a relentless motor on the ice. He's got good speed and hits everything that moves, so I imagine he'll find a role as a bottom 6 energy guy who will quickly become a fan favorite.

                  Levi Wunder 5'9 160 96 F Odessa (NAHL):24 gp 1/8/9
Levi was recently traded to Odessa from division leading Lone Star presumably to find more playing time. After a very successful season with Drumheller in the AJHL last year, the UP (Upper Peninsula) Wunder Kid struggled to find a top 6 role with Lone Star. He's scored at every level he's played at and will hopefully regain his touch and confidence with Odessa. Lauded for his speed and offensive abilities, I'm sure he'll begin producing in Odessa with more ice time and a more-defined scoring role. He's one to watch going forward.

I think that we should all cheer for the other team at home games the rest of the year. It seems to work wonders when we're actually on the road.

                      Re: UAH Hockey 2016-17

This team, man. They frustrate me so much, and yet they're tied for third in league points (although the two teams they're tied with have two games in hand). Home ice isn't unrealistic!

And yet the road forward is hard, with visits from Mankato, Tech, and Bemidji and trips to the Soo, Fairbanks, and BG. Mankato and BG have looked beatable in the last few weeks, and Lake Superior probably isn't the team that blitzed UAH at home. If, at best, the Chargers win two games at home to finish and win four or more on the road — this seems reasonable — they'll be .500. That said, they have truly struggled at home this year (just like the last decade), and asking for two wins from three of the four best teams in the league is probably asking too much.

UAH has beaten the teams that they should beat, as they're 7-4-1 against teams behind them in the standings. They haven't beaten the two teams behind them in the standings that they again play this year, and they haven't beaten any of the teams ahead of them.

                      Saddle up.

Any of our UAH posters remember a guy named Brett Agan who played backup goalie for UAH - one season, about 20 years ago?

Great news on this commit. Putting up over a PPG on a good CPC team. He's the captain and purportedly counted on in all situations. With Wunder having a sub-par final junior campaign, getting another forward on board who can make an impact as a true freshman is huge.

All of our recruits appear to be high character kids. Very good sign for the program going forward and "turning the corner."
