um, that's completely consistent with what I wrote...to protect the community, make sure that, from an early age, everyone respects the damage a gun can do, knows how and when to use it responsibly, and knows how to store and maintain it safely.

Wyoming has very little gun-related violence, yet there are more guns than people there. Children are taught respect and careful use of guns from an early age. The noise and recoil alone, in a child's hands, are plenty impressive. You learn instinctively to fear what it can do when used improperly; you never use it for "self-expression" or for political commentary. You know how dangerous it can be and treat it accordingly.

Adolescents, on the other hand, think they will live forever and that nothing will ever harm them. Worst time in life to use a gun for the first time.

totally missed the point. if a person has been brutally hurt, then being afraid of it happening again a second time, given how our nervous system works, is totally rational.

Yep, I've been saying the same thing for a long time. I really want to see 10,000 black males descend on CPAC and crowd the NRA booth with enthusiastic and sincere interest. The gun lobby would LOVE it (genuinely)!

I suspect the Second Amendment would suddenly not be all quite so comprehensive, given that a single unarmed black teen is enough to make the entire inbred nation of Billy Bobs sh-t a collective brick.

I'd also really like to see blacks start using Stand Your Ground when confronted with angry, threatening herpa-derps. Again, we'd find the right suddenly discerning subtleties in that legislation not currently apparent.

I love it when white conservatives opine about Urban People.

Fish, here is some friendly advice one of the people you're using as a prop for your idiocy once offered to you:

I was careful to clarify in my part of the country. The statistics of actual violence towards women from strangers, not those they know does not support the need to bring a gun to your mailbox, carry one to the grocery store, etc. What do all those women in the rest of the world do to feel safe? Is there a higher incidence of violence towards women in cultures that do not carry pepper spray, mace or a gun?

I have taken care of women who have survived violence towards them. I am cognizant that things happen. Anecdotally I can also say for the most part it was someone they know, not the bogie man behind the mailbox

If you're packing a gun for personal protection, outside of a war zone, you're an idiot. You're far more likely to blow away a family member, a bystander, or a finger than you are to successfully defend yourself.

The NRA has peddled guns to dumb white women to protect their honor from the Scary Black Menace for fifty years, and it's the same ol' racist game the South used to play by lynching people. Only they figured out how to monetize it.

A large supply of M1 Garands should be coming on the market fairly soon. You need to be a member of a Civilian Marksmanship Program to be able to purchase one.

Huh. I was misinformed then, sorry. I might have been misled by the "Obama-era" description about the rule that was stricken (as being a proposal that was voted down). The law barely had time to get warmed up before it was stomped down. Any little nibble at the edge of "gun rights" generates a nuclear response from the NRA et al.

Dammit Kepler. I just got flagged for going to a gun site at work.

There was a great discussion about it at the start of this thread or in the gun control thread. Very detailed.

The NRA leadership would deny Blacks membership. They proved that when they took days to comment on Philandro Castillo.

Somewhat unrelated, but Yanez is going to get off on that anyway. He got in front of the jury and used his magic words get out of jail free card, "I feared for my life".

As of reporting now it's a hung jury. They have been asked to try and break it but no dice yet. I'm willing to bet he gets off.

Are you serious? I thought that was Cosby.

Unbelievable. This might be the case that convinces me a cop can murder someone in cold blood and get off (and also get acquitted).

Just read it in the paper today. They got jury instructions all over again because as of now they're hung.

Wonder if they will retry him, I'm assuming this ends with a hung jury. I can't imagine any of the jurors leaning towards no guilty will change their minds about the Scary Black Man. I think the best the prosecutors can get is a plea bargain to avoid a 2nd trial, and I wouldn't give very good odds on that.

Wyoming also has a population density of 6 people per square mile and a total population less than the Des Moines metropolitan area.

Something tells me that plays a bigger role than anything you just said.
