  • Brown Hockey 2016-17: The Importance of Being Ernst

Well, there's not much else to say about 2015-16, and Euler has provided the names of the incoming freshmen, so I suppose it's time to look forward. I assume the captains will be named soon, and while the schedule hasn't been finalized, FlagDUDE08 has compiled a Google doc that contains the ECAC schedule as well as our OOC opponents.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...ZyI/edit#gid=0

Let's hope for some improvement this year. Things have gotten awfully bleak in Meehan lately. I'm expecting to see better play defensively through a combination of progression from some of the promising underclassmen and the addition of a goalie who seems more capable than what we previously had on the roster. The offense might lose some punch without Lappin and Naclerio, but I think some of the freshmen can contribute and I'm expecting Willman, Lafferty and Bird to each take a big step forward.

Time will tell how it all pans out, of course, but there's no reason this team shouldn't be an improvement on last year's.

(Apologies to whoever asked me not to use a pun for the next thread. Couldn't resist! It was between this and "Marchin Onward" - maybe that can be next year's title)

Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

I was on campus Saturday catching up with some friends from the class of '66 and attending the Delt Foundation Memorial. Lots of talk at lunch about the success of Brown lax and questions as to why lax is successful and other sports, including hockey, are not. It was interesting to note that when the Brown Maryland lax game started there seemed to be a lot of alums watching the game on TV as the campus had a lot less people walking around after the game started and not all were at the ongoing functions.

Mark Divver recently reported that we'll be playing Maine in Portland this season over Thanksgiving weekend. Could be a fun road trip! Portland is a nice little city.

Time will tell with the incoming recruits. Some decent size across the board, and regardless of statistics the majority played in high quality junior leagues which is always better for adjustment purposes.

The mystery of where the Desert Hockey Classic will be played remains unresolved. Tempe or Prescott?

I can't believe the ECAC gave us Harvard for our Senior Night and then sent us to Quinnipiac for theirs. You'd think Yale would get their chief rivals in each of those games.

It's too bad UNH has fallen off the face of the earth. In years' past, that home game in January would've been a HUGE deal. Now, it's just another game.

I like that we only have one game over winter break. The Yale, Harvard and Cornell games are much more fun with some students in the stands. They may not bother to show up anyway, but at least there's a chance this year.

It will be interesting to see whether the success of men's lacrosse and overall increase in excitement and attendance for home games during the spring season has a carry over effect towards the fall and (hopefully) winter events. In speaking with an underclassmen on the Lacrosse Team he said the team was so blown away by the support from fellow athletes ESPECIALLY the men's hockey team that the team has already discussed leading the charge to rally support and bring out the (whoop) for any and all home games.

The Meehan while old would be one heck of a place to watch a game if it reached capacity. When not if they start winning again the culture will change for good. Ever True.. Roll Bruno

This is awesome to hear! Obviously, winning will bring people to the rink no matter what, but it would be nice to get a core group of student support to help establish a presence at games.

Getting them to stay for all 60 minutes helps too. I was at the game against Quinnipiac last year and the student section was mostly full for the 1st period, but they all disappeared during the intermission and never came back which was kind of a bummer.

On bright side, Vesey/Criscuolo and Lyon are gone from Harvard and Yale respectively. The combination of the first line for Harvard as well as goaltending for Yale won so many games over the past 3+ years in the league. One would think that the league should get more muddled with top end stars no longer there. Parity should be at an all time high other than the obvious elephant that is Quinnipiac and Coach Pecknold.

Unless someone has inside info none of the NHL Teams have released their Prospect Development Rosters yet Mike. I’ve been checking all the NHL Team sites & most say they’ll release rosters the end of June/early July.
